How Do Nigerian Professionals View Continuing Professional Education? by AjanleKoko: 10:38am On Jun 18, 2010
Apart from medicine, law, accounting, and maybe insurance and financial management, there seems to be little or no push by most Nigerian professionals for continuing professional education and development. Rather there is a rush for certificates designed to enhance job opportunities, apparently, and not to improve on-the-job knowledge. I have often wondered why this is the case.

I'd like to ask Nigerian professionals in Nigeria a few questions:

1. What sector do you work in?

2. Outside formal degrees, have you done any kind of professional certification or training?

3. Was it sponsored by you or your company?

4. Do you have mandated continuing professional education as part of your career progression requirements? Or was it your individual effort?

5. What's the general view in your company towards professional development? Is it encouraged, supported or despised?

6. What has been your experience after getting the professional education? Has it enhanced your job knowledge, boosted your profile and helped get you another job? Would like some insights here.

Let's hear from the house.
