AE-FUNAI PRO-CHANCELLOR GOES HOME IN STYLE
People from all works of life recently gathered at the National War Museum, Ebite, Umuahaia, Abia State for the funeral ceremony of the Pro Chancellor/Chairman of the 2nd Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Mba Uzoukwu who transited to eternally glory, aged 87.

In a sermon entitled: “Living a Life of Legacy”, the Methodist Archbishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, Rivers State, Most Rev. Dr. Sunday Agwu, harped on the need for Christians to leave good legacies while on earth, noting that it was only the good works of individuals that would speak for them when they were no more.

Citing copiously from the Holy Scripture, Acts of the Apostles chapter 9 verses 36-41, the clergyman urged people to always embrace good deeds in all their endeavours, adding that such kind gestures were usually reciprocated by God and attracts endless rewards both here on earth and in eternity.
He further stressed that good works provoke God to action and make him release immeasurable blessings to the doer, noting that the demise of a godly person usually elicit joyful celebrations in heaven unlike an evil person who die in opprobrium.
The remains of late Uzokwu, a foremost professor of Vertinary Medical Science, was later laid to rest at his country home, Amafor-Isi-Ngwu, after a requiem service witnessed by crème d’ la crème of the Nigerian society that included the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed represented by the Director of Management Support Services, Barr. Victor Onuoha, Chancellor of AE-FUNAI, Oba Michael Aremu Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, represented by Chief Kehinde Shofenwa and the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba. Other bigwigs at the solemn event were members of the AE-FUNAI Governing Council, erudite members of the academia, politicians that included the former Governor of Cross River State, Chief Liyel Imoke, and many others.

Meanwhile, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, had on Tuesday, 24th July, 2018 held a Valedictory service at the Senate Chamber in honour of the departed Pro Chancellor whose demise occurred on Thursday, 30th May, 2018 after a brief illness.

The late Professor Uzoukwu superintended the affairs of the University Council for over two years, having assumed office in March 2016. Until his death, he was irrevocably committed towards the vision of making the university a world-class centre of learning and research, and gave the needed support for the actualization of the AE-FUNAI dream.



Recounting the fatherly and professional relationship he had with the deceased, the Vice-Chancellor noted that he was a thorough-bred academic, who brought his wealth of experience to bear in the university. He further noted that the entire university community would surely miss him.
