Given my knowledge of political structures through the length of Nigeria only Kwankwaso and Lamido can give Buhari a good run and they'll both lose ultimately. Tumbawal can give it a try but I'm not sure he has the political structure outside his state to do that.

Saraki and Atiku are dead in the water, Saraki more so his political desperation makes him look bad, Atiku has the weight of corruption allegations (that have never been formalised) hanging on his shoulders . APC would win and win comfortably the way things are stacked.

PDP would sell destruct after their primaries because the gladiators are not people who believe in fair play they'll all pay delegates and cheat, I expect to see more defections

Lamido to rule Nigeria just because he is a prince from the Fulani royal family. Nothing to point to as his achievements.... Nothing whatsoever.
I pity my brothers from the SE. We are between the devil and the deep blue sea.

We need a leader that will sign a pact with Nigerians to implement and carry through restructuring and true federalism, something which zai baba has openly disagreed with. We must take up our destiny and the time is now.

Keep dreaming.

Restructuring and true federalism is a Northern decision.

If you're expecting any Northern president to restructure then be hoping till eternity.

Most of your type think it's buhari or Apc. It's not true, it's a Northern decision. Anybody can use that to campaign bcoz that's what you type want to hear but none of them have the political will to do it.

And have Atiku, Saraki and Tambuwal talked about that?

What did PDP do in the last 16 years to give us restructuring, true federalisim, etc? (And don't mention Jona's confrence that took secession off the table from the word go).?

And what is true federalisim.? Is it that the whole South South or South East and South South, or the whole South benefits from oil, while the North and Middle Belt can go and rely on Agriculture?

And why talk about true federalisim, when we still have corrupt people at all levels?

And by the way....which government, PDP or APC has talked about the real issue bothering Nigeria.....which is the fact that our economy is not producing stuff the world needs...and generating jobs as a result....yes what agenda does PDP or APC or any party have about that?

Your problem is the same as the sai barber people. You guys want an arrangement about sharing money. You don't want to develop Nigeria. You want to share money. Well....that is not how real life is...and the sooner we stop thinking that there is a national cake to be shared, the better.

We need a change in this country. And it starts by taking the hard decsion to become a manufactruing country, not a sharing and sharing country.

Exactly. All what they want is Niger Delta oil for the Niger Delta alone. Forgetting that the same corrupt leaders are still the people who will be in charge of their resources even if their "true federalism" agitation succeed.
Sharing of oil proceeds won't get us anywhere, we need real investors in manufacturing, people like Dangote. But instead, every looter is just locking up their loots in far away Europe or America or buying stupid properties up and down.

Many states in north central are already backing out. Especially states with fulani herdsmen killings..

It is easier to defeat Buhari now.. North alone can never give him the win.

He knows that. He cant win east and south south, he is hoping to hold on to the centra north and west.

As the competition for the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party gets stiffer in the run-up to the 2019 general elections, the party has said that it will rely on Nigerians to help the party choose its candidate for the presidential election.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, said the party had heard that many people, including a former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; his colleague in Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were interested in picking its presidential ticket.

He, however, said the decision to rely on Nigerians was premised on the party’s determination to avoid past mistakes, impunity and imposition of candidates.

According to Ologbondiyan, the party is not backing any of those in line to get its presidential ticket. Others interested in getting the party’s presidential tickets are a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau; former governors of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and Ibrahim Turaki; and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.

He said, “As a party, we have so many candidates already, but Nigerians will determine their next president.

“Nigerians are desirous of change; there is no argument about that. And it is more than obvious that the APC is bent on presenting President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term. The party does not have any other alternative. So, Nigerians desiring change can’t get it in the APC. They are looking at the PDP. We don’t want to disappoint them again.

“There are so many demands in the country now. All of these factors will come to play in selecting our presidential candidate.

“We don’t want the party to be damaged again over allegations of imposition.”

Since President Muhammadu Buhari declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019, there have been discussions in political circles about who can successfully challenge him at the poll, especially in the opposition parties.

In a bid to challenge the ruling APC, the PDP and no fewer than 30 parties had recently formed a coalition in readiness for the next general elections.

Called the Coalition of United Political Parties, the collaborating parties and associations had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly present candidates for elective positions.

However, this has not stopped some members of the PDP from signifying interest in getting the main opposition party’s presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, sources in the PDP have told Saturday PUNCH that the recent defection of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso has altered political calculations among some members of the party.

It was learnt that with the two leading politicians’ interest in the presidential ticket of the party, the number of strong contenders for the party’s ticket from the North-West had increased to five.

The North-West, which arguably accounts for the highest number of votes per zone, is Buhari’s traditional political stronghold.

The zone is home to seven states, the highest number in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones structure.

A top ranking member of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said, “Before now, the former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido; his former Kaduna State counterpart, Ahmed Makarfi, and a former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), were the most visible contestants from the North-West.

“All three lay claim to their fidelity to the cause of the PDP throughout the years as strong selling points.”

This was earlier corroborated by Lamido in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, when he said, “If we (those who remained) had left the PDP like others, would there have been a PDP to return to?”

Until Tambuwal’s recent defection, the PDP had no sitting governor in the entire zone.

However, the arrival of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso in the picture has renewed PDP’s confidence of giving the APC and its candidate a good fight.

Authoritative sources within the PDP told one of our correspondents that Tambuwal had consulted widely on his presidential ambition before his decision to dump the APC, on which platform he was elected governor in 2015.

Some of the sources, who were privy to the workings within and outside the party, said Tambuwal was being considered as a possible candidate because of his age, educational background, cosmopolitan nature and experience.

It was gathered that the former Speaker’s experience in the legislature was also being considered as an added advantage as he was initially to challenge Buhari for the APC ticket in 2014, but had decided to contest the governorship of Sokoto State.

Kwankwaso’s supporters, on the other hand, argue that his popularity in his home state of Kano, which is reputed to have accounted for Buhari’s 1.9 million votes in 2015, and the support he enjoys in other states in the North is “as good as that of the President in the region.”

Kwankwaso, who was second only to Buhari during the 2014 APC presidential primary, is being considered as someone that could pose a threat to Buhari’s re-election bid.

The former Kano State governor has however left the decision about his political future in the hands of the party.

Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Binta Spikin, said, “I don’t know about that (presidential ambition) because now that he is in the PDP, it is for the party to decide whether it will hold a primary or adopt a candidate.

“I don’t know about that. Until the party speaks, I cannot say anything on that. I can only hope that the party sees the potential in Senator Kwankwaso and give him the ticket.”

Another source in the PDP, who also spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to be seen as taking sides, said, “The candidate that the PDP needs is someone who has the capacity to deflate the support base of President Buhari (especially) in the northern part of the country.

“It should be someone who is seen as representing the entire country and will not treat those who didn’t vote for him with less attention. Both men are believed to be popular in the northern part of the country.”

However, Director of Media and Publicity, Atiku Presidential Campaign, Mr. Segun Sowumi, expressed confidence that the party would see what his principal is to offer and give him the chance to be its presidential candidate.

He said, “Atiku has over the years been convinced that Nigeria can be great and he also believes that so much of the greatness that people believe Nigeria can be rests on the leadership and he has also had the opportunity of being inside and outside government and knows what needs to be done.”
One of Saraki’s loyalists in the Senate, who also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, explained that the Senate President was under pressure to join the presidential race.

The source said, “He is seriously under pressure by so many groups, friends in business, politicians – senators and governors, traditional rulers and others. But as you may know, he is somebody who listens more and will only smile than say what he will do.”

I will agree with anyone that support the view that life was far better during the 16 years rule of the PDP (against the 3+ years rule of the incumbent). I know the PDP enthusiasts will be smiling at my above comment (that's what a die hard PDP fan will want to hear always). Unfortunately, 3 square meals and lower commodity prices are not the only economical drivers in a sovereign nation.

My view on the comparison between the 16yrs rule of the PDP against the 3yrs rule of the APC are as follows.

THE PDP REIGN OF CABALISM
The word "Cabal" was introduced into the Nigerian space during the PDP rule and has been associated with a lot of positive and negative attributes. I personally think that cabals had a dangerously high influence in the PDP administration and these cabals had the PDP administration in their pockets. During the 16yrs rule, these set of influential individuals made it possible to put food on our table, lower commodity prices and a sense of unity. To a everyday Nigerian, these were enough to keep them going. But in truth, there was a whole ecosystem of looting, corruption, power play and immunity going on under the hood. The true economy was gradually being depleted and syphoned into private powers. Every tom-dick-and-harry in power was making a fortune, a low level civil servant could build mansions and ride the sleekest cars. Politicians were gods in their confined spaces and they dictate who gets what, where and when. The level of moral decay, financial degradation and political might was so alarming...it became a norm by many and was accepted by the poor (as long as there's food on their table). During the 16yrs rule, it was an unproven fact that the cabals have a vast majority of the politicians in their pockets and hence, nobody ever fantasized that a great era would come to an end. Even to me... it came as a cold shock when the president conceded victory to the APC aspirant. Lot of consequential billionaires were made during the 16yrs rule and a far number of millionaires made their money by just signing a piece of paper. It was a hard pill to swallow when news trickle in that the PDP has lost the elections. A new era has started with the Buhari led APC government.

UNPREPARED AND OVERWHELMED - APC
The APC rode on the mantra of "CHANGE" and it was accepted by many Nigerians. Change seems to be the logical way forward and there was this atmosphere of great expectation. Even though the new administration was super slow in kick starting the economy...many had given them kudos in unveiling the true state of the economic after a 16yrs rule of the PDP administration (it was a really bad picture). The collective wealth of the nation had been systematically, legally and un-legally and gradually converted into private pockets. Many were in the school of thought that the APC were only interested in clinging power from the PDP and they had little or no experience on how to captain the ship called Nigeria. Some experts argue that the APC had too many things in their plate and they failed to focus on specific and key issues in the economy. From day 1 to present, no government has been criticized and shrouded in controversies...like the APC led government. Even with these controversies, many Nigerians still think its too early and unfair to score a 3yrs old government (against a 16yrs rule of the PDP).

CONCLUSION - APC vs PDP
Its brazenly clear that both parties have their merits and demerits. Its also brazenly clear that more Nigerians are beginning to stand up to their electoral rights. There are far more issues I didn't touch about both parties and it'll be professional to be constructive in our criticism of these parties.

Go get your VOTER'S CARD and lets collectively choose a leader that will steer us to the right path.

Lets have 2 serious debates before the PDP primaries and the process will select a candidate for us. All this pretenders we will see those who can stand the rigours of governance and those who cant.

Presidential candidate: Nigerians’ll help us choose among Saraki, Tambuwal, Atiku, Kwankwaso, others, says PDP

Some people are agitating for restructuring, some want a leader with experience, not somebody that will get to power and wait for another six months before appointing ministers, some want young people. All of these factors will come to play in selecting our presidential candidate.

“Nigerians will signpost who they believe should lead them. We want to produce a credible candidate. Nigerians will sing the song of the one they want to lead them; the party doesn’t have any candidate yet.”

He added, “Currently, there are debates over the age of who should be our President, whether the President should be young or old. Therefore, there are so many aggregations of opinions, so what Nigerians say about the kind of candidate they want will inform our choice.

Saraki being a Yoruba will not be accepted by the north, Atikus name is irredeemably tainted in corruption and nothing can be done about it. Tambuwal is the guy to beat

Saraki doesn't need to win the entire northern Nigeria.

He needs to collect 30% of northern votes and den win SE SS n SW.

Simple.

And have Atiku, Saraki and Tambuwal talked about that?

What did PDP do in the last 16 years to give us restructuring, true federalisim, etc? (And don't mention Jona's confrence that took secession off the table from the word go).?

And what is true federalisim.? Is it that the whole South South or South East and South South, or the whole South benefits from oil, while the North and Middle Belt can go and rely on agriuculture?

Talk is very cheap..All u did was castigate everything on site without offering any form of solution to the Nigerian problem.

""And why talk about true federalisim, when we still have corrupt people at all levels?""

This is a very senseless post.

Saraki no follow because buhari will give saraki 19:0 in the north

Only atiku stand a little chance because he is from North East

Any candidate from North west against buhari will not even win his state not to talk of other north west states

Tambuwal will win several northern states. This is not GEJ vs Buhari. Buhari isn't as popular as u people make him seem in the north.

Against Yaradua he was beaten blue black, Yaradua even defeated Buhari in the Sokwoto caliphate headquarters.
