THE National Examination Council (NECO) on Sunday, announced immediate suspense of the ongoing June/July, Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in Edo State over alleged attempt to subvert the process by the state government.

The suspension takes effect from today, Monday, 21.

Chairman, Governing Board of NECO, Mallam Yero Bello, who announced this at a news briefing in Abuja, on the development, said the board took the decision following the directive on Wednesday last week, by the state commissioner for education barring the examination monitors from entering the examination halls.

The NECO said, as part of efforts to curb the rampant nature of examination malpractice, in the conduct of its examinations, introduced examination monitors, including the officers of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSDC). It said this had in the last three years helped tremendously to cut down incidence of malpractices, especially the organised cheating.

But Yero said to the surprise of the examination body, the Edo State government in a special radio announcement on 17th June, 2010 and circular dated 11th June 2010 directed that the officers of the Civil Defense Corps should remain at the school gate, while any other NECO monitor should be approved by the office of the commissioner.

I don't know what u guys r on about but I think NECO acted within their rights. It's time some people are called to order when certain lines are crossed.

There is a lot more to it than meets the eye!! Perhaps the NECO officials in Edo State have been implicated in the exam scandal thats why they were banned from entering the exam hall

We need to be careful about what we do in this nation.DO u know that some candiddates travel all the way from the eastern state in nconvoy of buses to go to Edo state to take Examination just because anything goes out there in Edo.Even an accident claimed lives of many candiddates like that some years ago.NECO should be allowed monitor their Exams or those against that should pull out of the Exam period.Edo state should not create the impression that they have a hidden agenda,our students should learn to work hard and stop all these lazy attitude to learning.

One of my friend (d son of sec to ministry ) called 6pm and he told dat d exam is on 2mrw. No shaking

i wonder why ppl are not objective, there is more exam malpractice in the north than in edo state but u dont get to hear them becos the north has realized that their wards will have to possess the qualifications needed since a coup is no more an option,just go to the ministries in abj and u see dem they can even express themselves ,so how did they get there,so this also is applicable in other states including the west and east.this is a nigerian problem and not an edo state prob.

habbah!! the exam never end nah !will neco refund them their money or what?even for our side many sdhool were sanctioned not to write neco this sesion but their money was refunded sha! neco don de change oo!!

you mean people travel from igboland to edo state just because of 5 credits.edo state must investigate this information and fish out those igbo people.

neco under my feet with there dirty exams is it today that another name for exam in nigerian is , in any state so the should stop protesting law of no effect in our state of any kind,
