Consumers Protection Council NG in conjunction with NAFDAC, today, shut down Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Victoria Island, Lagos, following regulatory issues with the shelf life of their raw materials.

According to the Director General of CPC, Babatunde Irukera, the move became necessary on account of serious regulatory violations with using expired doughnut mix and fillings.

Nigerians must make their choice.

Do you prefer expired food or
would you rather go without food.

Expired food is harmless to black man.

And, technically speaking, foods are still
good & wholesome, up to three months after
the ’BB’ date.

how so? everything on that side is in arabic

also i have read different stuff to the effect that the business of food expiry is not quite so cut and dried

https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2017/02/15/515427797/food-companies-may-say-goodbye-to-sell-by-labels

Two of the most influential groups in the food industry are asking companies to change those pesky "expiration" or "sell by" labels on packaged food.

The labels, you see, don't mean what they appear to mean. Foods don't "expire." Most foods are safe to eat even after that "sell by" date has passed. They just may not taste as good, because they're not as fresh anymore. Companies use the labels to protect the reputation of their products – they want consumers to see and consume their food in as fresh a state as possible. But those dates often have the perverse effect of convincing over-cautious consumers to throw perfectly good food into the trash.

Some states require expiration dates on items such as milk and meat.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Food Marketing Institute are hoping to prevent that. They're now advising their members, which include most major food manufacturers and retailers, to abolish many current labels, including "Expires on" and "Sell by."

Instead, they're asking companies to use just two labels. One would use the words "Best if used by" a particular date. This label would probably go on most foods. And companies could put a "Use by" date on products that could become less safe as they age. Brian Kennedy, a spokesman for the GMA, said the second label might go on packages of shucked raw oysters, for example.

Some environmental advocacy groups, such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, have been pushing for such a reform for a long time. They say the existing labels have been an obstacle to reducing food waste. Last year, the USDA issued a guidance document that asked companies voluntarily to adopt one universal label, using the words "Best if used by."

so its possible these are overzealous agents or this is a shakedown

A lot of people that die suddenly, die from food poinsoning due to expired or unhygenically prepared food. Expired food is very very dangerous to your health. Imagine all the chemicals used to preserve the food at that point are expired. Your body will hear it loud. If not immediately, then cancer will finish the person off.

Food expires oooo. A lot of these articles are sponsored by lobbyists to relax regulations on food. I have seen how expired food can make one really sick. Foods that pass their sell by date in cans start to look strange. You consider that these companies probably stretch this sell by date to the maximum they can get away with based on food standards. So, don’t mind these articles o. Those labels are there for a reason. Once food approach 2 months to sell by date abroad they put it on serious sale in the super market.
Re: NAFDAC Shuts Down Krispy Kreme Doughnuts For Using Expired Raw Materials by kushe: 9:16pm On Aug 08, 2018
as a franchise, the krispy kreme must have had a set target by what they refer to as 'CORPORATE' in the U.S or a regional office probably in India or Dubai. With the current hardship in Nigeria, they might be doing well below expected, hence the stacks of the mix in question. Some fraud was going on and even if nafdac didnt show up,theywould have eventually encountered problems remitting money they did not earn and hence the large unsold inventory.
This is just a sign of an ailing economy and nothing absolutely to rejoice about.

Do you know in kfc ,chicken that has spent beyond a certain time limit on the shelf has to be thrown away.If you try that in naija, you have enrolled for BANKRUPTCY 101.No wonder almost all the KFCs are closed.Blame the terrible economy that makes opening a franchise in nigeria an exercise in futility. The solution, home grown brands that know the terrain.

So milk, eggs and flour all mixed is supposed to be edible after a year right? Check when these products expire on their own. Donuts is made from egg, milk and flour.

That's the Nigerian factor at play. Krispy Kreme is known as arguably the number 1 doughnut brand in the United States. But after a few months in Nigeria they had to shut down because of what I'd still like to call corruption. Same thing with Dominoes Pizza over here. The branch at Ikorodu is probably stealing ingredients and thus making substandard pizza. I had to report them for them to get their act together. I was compensated, but I still haven't visited since because they've probably still not fixed their underlying issues and I can't be wasting money on trash.
