The state Commissioner for Education, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, made the disclosure in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly meeting of the state executive council held on Wednesday.

The commissioner said the amount approved was meant to give public secondary schools in the state a total facelift and provide a conducive learning atmosphere for the students in line with the determination of the state government to provide qualitative education in an enabling environment.

Giving a breakdown of the total sum, he said that N110.58 million would be spent on the construction of six units of six-classroom buildings across the three senatorial districts in the state, adding that another N145.5 million, would be spent on the construction of 13 units of three-classroom buildings in different parts of the state.

According to him, the new classrooms would have toilet with longs pan roofing sheet, terrazzo flooring, steel doors and windows, furniture for staff and students and equipped with computer sets.

Noting that many of the classrooms in most secondary schools in the state were in bad shape, Professor Adedoja said the sum of N122 million had been earmarked for the rehabilitation of 23 classroom buildings across the state and in various phases.
