You must have seen brides throw their flowers at the single ladies at wedding ceremonies. Here's how that became a thing.

At almost every wedding ceremony you attend, you’ll see the bride holding a bouquet of beautiful flowers in blossom.
And of course, you know what becomes of those petals.

They don’t end in a vase or in a refrigerator. They get tossed by the bride to a waiting group of single ladies who scramble for it and whoever gets it is considered fortunate and next in line for a lovely wedding, right?

But have you ever wondered what brought about this wedding tradition?

So back in medieval times, being married was considered such a massive blessing that people really just wanted to touch the bride by all means.

It was thought that touching any part of her garment [maybe the hem] would bring them good fortune and so strong was this belief that people soon began to literally rip dresses off brides for some extra good luck.

As time progressed, brides devised a means of escaping to their honeymoon with dresses intact so they began to toss the bouquets to distract people.

As people rushed off to get the bouquet, the bride and groom would then make a run for it!

Bouquets are part of the bride’s outfits; so technically, catching a petal off it or the whole bunch of flowers was thought to fetch blessings just as the dress.

As time went on and civilization grew on us, tossing the bouquet became less and less an act of diversion for the bride to make her escape.

These days, it has become an integral part of wedding ceremonies that’s actually looked forward to.

Just like bridal garters, wedding bouquets have a ridiculous history but they’ve continued to exist till they’ve now become beautiful parts of almost every amazing, modern wedding ceremony.
