A killer final year proposal can be said to be a proposal that touches key areas of a research to be carried out, the question may then be, How can this be written ?

First things first, it is expected that a student will have to settle down and undergo a surface study of what he/she will wish to write on and if it will be tangible enough to submit to the department as a final copy before leaving the school as a graduate, the aspect of having time to study prospective topics, can sometimes be tasking to students with very busy schedules in their final year. Part of our job for years now is consultations in a bid to assist students choose proper topics to write proposals on and submit to their supervisors/lecturers.

It’s vital that a student understands the direction/area of study the lecturer/project supervisor or even department would want the student to focus his/her research on. Most times the students are being told when they ask, and this is very important to prevent a student from submitting proposals that will be rejected.

Once an area of focus has being understood, a student is expected to think of topics based on the specified area and make further sourcing of resources that will lead to efficient understanding of his/her topics to be submitted.

Key to topic selections is trying to think of present problems in the society, that need solutions, this way if a student can come up with the problems and reason out the solution, its possible that such topic will be accepted because;

Its modern
It will have solution to a problem/ problems
Such topics which finally get approved end up being published in online journals.

When a student has figured out this topic the next key task to undertake, should be to make research about what the topics entail, if possible its advisable such a research should be indepth so that the student can be able to defend what he/she has written over time.

Some departments or lecturers will tell or give their students, project proposal formats for which they will use to write about their chosen topics. This formats have a basic requirement, which entails that a student will understand, what the topics are and also that the student can make due research if any given project is approved.

In addition an academic proposal for a research is expected to contain these elements in broad terms:

A rationale for the choice of topic, showing why it is important or useful within the concerns of the discipline or course. It is sensible also to indicate the limitations of your aims—don’t promise what you can’t possibly deliver.
A review of existing published work (“the literature”) that relates to the topic. Here you need to tell how your proposed work will build on existing studies and yet explore new territory.
An outline of your intended approach or methodology (with comparisons to the existing published work), perhaps including costs, resources needed, and a timeline of when you hope to get things done.
Use of headings, lists, and visuals to make reading and cross-reference easy. And employ a concrete and precise style to show that you have chosen a feasible idea and can put it into action. Here are some general tips that can greatly help you:

Start with why your idea is worth doing (its contribution to the field), then fill in how (technicalities about topic and method).
Give enough detail to establish feasibility, but not so much as to bore the reader.
Show your ability to deal with possible problems or changes in focus.
Show confidence and eagerness (use I and active verbs, concise style, positive phrasing).
The proposal encompasses argumentative writing as well as hardcore research. It will usually contain reviews of various books which support the thesis or hypothesis that it proposes to prove.
