Imo state governor should see what governace is al about, not going to the village to intimidate the poor people there. There is not good as being simple and focus. Gov. Amaechi is the second best in 9ja we all know. Pls others shld follow their way(Fashola and Amaechi) and stop looting.
Ride on Governor Amaechi, God will make you stand tall. You have my vote come 2011.

Deep Soul:

^^He has increased (doubled?) the number of doctors and nurses in the state
He established about a 100 Health Centers.

He has built schools and rehabilitated old ones. And I daresay the quality of these structures would last for a very very long time (even with our poor maintenance culture).

He has facilitated the training of teachers in the state.

I'm sure he has done a whole lot more but those are the ones I am aware of. And for me, it's impressive that he's making efforts to improve two very important sectors - Education and health.

It's not about being optimistic nor pessimistic; It's about being faced with facts. And the fact is Amaechi has done enough in such a short time to show the ineffectiveness of the Odilli regime which lasted 8yrs!!

So pls forgive us for being excited. . . .

To add to what you have said;

The quality of roads being constructed in the state has improved from the former grade and tar roads to two lanes with centre divide and drainage.

Electricity has surely improved in most parts of the states. For example woji housing which use to have about 3 hours of electricity a week can now boast of over 6 hours a day. (thats an improvement no matter how insignificant).

New roads are being constructed on a daily basis.

Rivers people can actually see a chage in the general facade of the state.

I'm not saying he is the messiah, but at least he comes close to john the baptist.

Kudos to Amaechi.

Guy, i live in port harcourt and it is obvious you are not anywhere close to that city. Otherwise, i find it unbelievable that any just person can put the massive transformation going on in Rivers state (not just port harcourt) side by side with Odili's 8 yrs combined and not heave a sigh of relief.

I am not in the habit of singing praises for officials elected to do their jobs but i can truly tell you that even Amaechi's adversaries cannot take it from him- He is a good hand for the job. I understand that the pathetic situation in the past could have led you to making up your mind that our elected officials are all a bunch of no-gooders. That is why you need proofs and proofs.

Why not come around PH one of these days and see for yourself. I do not need to see pictures of Elf village or any other to feel good about PH. I only need to remember the past 8yrs prior to this administration and what i went through in terms of roads, security, education etc.

Let's not just sit out there in the diaspora and think things can't work here. We might be slow, but we will get there. Amaechi's is just a prelude.

Cheers

Re: Gov Amaechi Stops Nddc Boss Convoy by Natudu: 5:29pm On Jul 03, 2010
Kobikwelu,
I understand your point and you are right. I don't also buy the idea of using pictures of Elf village or the like to impress on the people. A colorful compound or even a tidy road does not translate to performance from a government that sees several billions of naira every month. I can make my abode look just like the one in the picture.

But i also understand that pictures can make a lot of difference in shaping the opinion of nigerians especially in the diaspora. The problem is: you damn well have to take a few weeks off to collate enough pictures if you desire to do justice to Amaechi's achievement in this past 3 years. Actually, i never gave him a chance. I bet something somewhat subliminal had happened to this guy after the fell out with his predecessor. Whatever that thing is, I pray God would sustain that in the interest of the people!

Now that this issue has come to the front burner, i just hope i make out time in the next coupla weeks to do a sort of expose on the turnaround going on in Rivers State.

Cheers

Phantom,

I just went through the link. Infact, i read through every comment there!
I can imagine how much time you have spent collating those images.
You did a good job. I would not engage in my planned expose for Nairalanders anymore. For my other future work, i beg you to send me the images you have so i can build on it. Please, you can mail them to egbudu2007@yahoo.com when you get a chance.

It may make sense to add that they are just part of what port harcourt has seen so far. The other local governments are getting their fair share too. So your pictures are that of a regular PH guy trying to back up his point.

You may wish to save your breath and not engage in excessive verbal fisticuffs with the doubting thomases created by our corrupt leaders in these past dark years. Truly, those past officials have succeeded in cementing into their hearts and minds, that nothing good can come out from us as a nation. I completely understand their initial reactions to your posts.
Like you know, most of these guys are in the diaspora and have not visited in a long while. The fact still remains that whether they believe or not, the work continues.

You and I are on the ground as first hand beneficiaries. Do we really need to convince people that our town is been transformed?

As for me, it should be: take it or leave it. No friction.

More grease to your elbow.

Cheers

EzeUche:

That is Governor Amaechi to you. Do people use middle names? They use first and last. Not some Yoruba name like Rotimi but an Igbo name like Amaechi.
Actually most of his friends and associates call him rotimi.he grew up as rotimi Amaechi.
