Kokoronkooo!!! Day don break for SON.

We have so many cancer causing agents in Nigeria market and SON is not doing much about it shocked.
As a professional Chemist, I've seen so many companies using these materials;
I often ask myself, how do they get into the country?.

Some of these Potential CARCINOGENS are:
-Lead driers used in many cheap and local paints
-Chlorinated rubber in paints
-Formalin used in cosmetics and personal care products
- Azo dyes ...the list is endless shocked

Part of the reasons why life expectancy in Nigeria is low, around 45-50 yrs. People are surrounded by "agents of death". Regulation and control is non existent. Those dangerous products being referred to in the post shouldn't have been allowed to get out of the ports. In fact those testing labs should be at the ports. Such tests are pretty fast. Simple extraction and sample prep, followed by analyses by some high resolution chromatography equipment. But in Nija, that would be like asking Jesus to come today.

So many Chinese products are banned in Europe and USA for similar reasons, most especially kids toys. Chinese people no send you.... I just pity Africans looking at how China is making incursion into the continent. If you say the white people are evil, Chinese people would be "evil raise to power 100".

I just dont understand we Africans, and most especially Nigerians. We act weak (and poor) even though God created us to be masters (and be rich).

Zoo trying to look hard-working. Which laboratory??

You want the unsuspecting importers to bring their goods so that you will seize it and demand fine for it to be released or you ask them for bribe. ndị Oshi.

I'm just tired of this world. What can one use again that is not carcinogenic?
I never ever even considered dye on clothes as carcinogenic. Lord have mercy.

They should have told Nigerians how to identify such materials so people can avoid it.

metronaijaceo:
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has warned importers of school uniform materials into Nigeria about some cancer-causing substances found in some school uniform materials made by two China based companies.

A statement issued by the Director-General of SON, Mr Osita Aboloma on Friday in Abuja, named the companies producing the materials as Sing Shun Fat School-Clothier Company and Zenith Uniform Company.

Aboloma said that the azo dyes found in some school uniforms in Hong Kong contained up to 173 milligrams and 41 milligrams per kilogram of the tested samples respectively.

He added that the amounts of the dye contained in the materials were well above the maximum allowed in the standard.

“Use of the 4-amino azo dyes have been banned in Europe, Japan and other parts of the world prior to the finding.

“Azo dyes could release carcinogenic substances known as aromatic amines when they mix with sweat, which accounted for the ban on the use of the dye in many countries of the world.”

The D-G advised importers of school uniform materials in Nigeria to endeavour to undergo the process of conformity assessment of such materials prior to import, through the SON off-shore Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP), to avoid bringing them to the country.

He further advised Nigerians to report any suspected uniform materials that may already be in the country to SON for necessary sampling, laboratory tests and analysis to be carried out at its Textile and Leather Laboratory in Kaduna for necessary regulatory action.

Aboloma added that all International Accredited Firms (IAFs) undertaking the off-shore Conformity Assessment Programme on behalf of SON all over the world have been put on alert regarding the cancer-causing substance in school uniform materials and other clothing materials to be imported into Nigeria.

SON is the body in charge of standardisation of all products in Nigeria

Some Nigerians are worst than ritualist.
How can someone be importing what innocent young minds will wear that will cost them their lives after buying what they thought would benefit them.
People no longer fear God at all.
Going to churches and mosque is like paying a visit to park.
Zero spiritual upliftment and continuous degradation of morality.
