England U-21 international, Dominic Solanke has been handed his first senior team call-up by England coach Gareth Southgate ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against Spain this weekend and the friendly game with Switzerland three days later.

Solanke who is the son of former Nigerian international, Dominic Iorfa decided to pledge his allegiance to the Three Lions after representing the country at the youth level.

He became a late call-up by Southgate as Liverpool midfielder, Adam Lallana withdrew from the squad after he picked up an injury during the team training at the St George’s Park on Tuesday.

Lallana was left out of the England squad at the Russia 2018 World Cup due after he failed to pass a late fitness test due to injury and was expected to return with the team after their World Cup performance that saw them finishing in fourth place.

Southgate’s squad is already down to 22 men after Raheem Sterling withdrew on Monday evening with a back problem.

The remaining players trained together for the first time since the World Cup on Tuesday morning, when Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke was brought up from the Under-21s to bolster numbers.

Those involved in Premier League action on Sunday left the session early, including rejuvenated Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw.
