1. The first edition was held in Lagos on March 9 2013, The centre of “excellence” has been the host city since the first edition in 2013 making this year’s award the 6th edition in a row, with the prestigious Eko hotel suits looking like a permanent home for the award, it has served as the venue for the event since its inception.
2. The event was broadcasted live in more than 50 countries across the African continent and beyond
3. Entries for the award are accepted from movies and television series that have been aired on DSTV platforms from the year under review
4. The Award is organized by Multi-choice and African Magic, but supported by other corporate sponsors
5. This year nominees were earlier announced via a televised broadcast on all African Magic channels on DSTV and GoTV by Nigerian comedian Bovi and Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas on June 30 2018.
6. “Otelo Burning” 2013 and “76” 2017 have each received the highest nominations since the awards inception with 14 each. Coming close is 93 days 2017 and Oloibri 2017 with 13 each
7. October 1st with 12 nominations in 2015 has the record for the most win with 9 win out of 12 nominations. 76 in 2017 with 5 out of 12 nominations, Otelo Burning in 2013 with 4 out of 14 nominations.
8. The 2018 award received more than 120 nominations for the 27 categories from across Africa including Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria. Winners emerged through votes by members of the public
9. Tatu went home the biggest winner of the night with the highest number of accolades for the night with 4 awards. Alter Ego received the highest nomination for this year 2018 awards.
10. Nigeria emerged the biggest winners of the night with 19 awards, Kenya 6, Malawi and Ghana with one each out of the 27 categories
