tamethem: The case you cited is not an example of jungle Justice. it is rather a travesty, an example of defective judicial process, which is the reason many countries have abolished the death sentence. The person in question was subjected to the judicial process which found him guilty of a heinous crime in error. The judge that delivered the verdict needed to be sanctioned. Jungle Justice is not acceptable, though, because it is even more likely to throw up such outcomes. But it only shows loss of confidence in the law enforcement structures of the country..a cold reminder of how close we are to the Hobessian world where life is said to be nasty, brutish and short.. 1 Like |

They're completely innocent! It was a near misunderstanding between car driver and and a passenger who raised false alarms and jungle justice metted out on them They're victims of false alarms and jungle Justice common in Nigeria. The matter is now in police with the culprit for investigation. May God protect us. Amen. |

I hope these are the same thieves who slapped my friend, stole her phone and stabbed her with a knife on both her palms. Jungle justice isn’t the way forward as there’s usually no concrete proof that you have the right person in most cases. When I was in secondary school, my friends and I went to play snooker and while we were out, one of (4 of us) them borrowed my last N20. They know I always have reserve money for transport so he thought I had another reserve outside that one. Long story short, as we approached our bus stop on our way back to school, the conductor asked for our fares and I pointed to my friend. He said he had no money on him. Fare was N5 per person. One of them had N10 on him and quickly paid for himself and one other. Me and this other guy were left in the bus and the already irate driver swore to take us to the garage for some beating. As he drove past our school he became distracted cos he kept swearing. He swerved into the oncoming lane causing a head on collision with a water tanker. Said driver emerged from the car bleeding and pointed at me who was seated behind him and said I tried to rob him with a biro. At this time we were just meters away from the garage. Area boys had gathered, the friend who I had given my N20 pretended to have fainted. I, who was conscious now was the one receiving the beating for both of us from area boys. I was just 16yrs old. They beat me till I lost consciousness. I then heard a man approach them and ask them if they really want my blood on their hands. He said, the police station isn’t far, just hand him over. Like an angelic intervention, they stopped at that moment and took me to the police station. There were no witnesses besides his conductor who was a young man. The police later found that the driver lied 2yrs later, after I had left the school. If not for the intervention of that man, I probably wouldn’t be here today. This occurred in 1994, when I was in SS2 but I remember every bit of it like it was yesterday. One may ask, why did the driver lie? He knew we were students and he couldn’t take the blame for the accident. He had just collected the bus for commercial driving and wanted our parents to fix it. Say No to jungle justice! 2 Likes 1 Share |

tolufase: Sometimes I don't blame those who take justice into their hands. If they had taken them to the police station, these criminals would have bribed their way out....I am not a fan of jungle justice, but this is justice served hot. That was how I fell victim to these cold hearted monsters in Jos... Some one chance victims are not lucky to come out alive,so why spare these criminals? |

Buharimustgo:No they won't and guess why.... because 80% of the time we foolishly carry jungle justice based on word of mouth accusations, inoccent blood is spilled. So the real bad guys are hardly ever caught like this. I friend of mine was almost lynched some time ago because an "elderly" woman accused him of stealing her money (pick pocket)... A big boy oo & thank God the mob did not just swing into action as usual but they had to ask him vital questions & where ready to liaten to his side of the story too.. All the while the woman was just screaming & tearing his shirt on his body.. What saved him was the money bills in his pocket, his atm card and bank alerts on his phone & the patience of the mob... Imagine if they overreacted because an "elderly" Its so sad we are still barbaric & backward in this modern world 1 Like 1 Share |

Juliearth:Kidnapping is evil & so is jungle justice because most of the time innocent people get accused wrongly.. Its a shame u feel jungle justice is a better way of tackling crime people like u belong in the dark ages.. Being a victim of kidnap is a sad experience so is being a victim of being wrongfully accused by frustrated, evil, lazy & jobless mob.. |

dairykidd: Did you really try to understand what I wrote? I am not a fan of jungle justice, but then I don't pity these people: first, they were caught in the act so this is not a case of being wrongfully accused. Handing them over to the police would have been the best shot here, but those people are sellouts and belief you me, they would be granted bail faster than you will get this reply and just maybe you might be their next victim . We are all feeling the hardship of this present regime but is crime a bailout option? |

People take laws into their hands when they know that the police could easily be weakened by bribe ,hence watering down swift justice |

I just had that the woman that falsely accused these people is in the Police station. One of them works in a Spa in Gwarinpa Area of Abuja... Heard these guys only offered her a lift and she ended up calling them kidnappers. That they are even neighbours. The owner of the Spa has vowed to ensure the woman pays for this crime. If true, then this is sad! |
