This scene was captured this morning. It was a traffic scene that features a Fire Service Vehicle. It was, ostensibly, on an emergency run. Its lights were flickering and the siren blaring. Yet, it somehow succeeded in being stuck in a traffic gridlock along the Surulere Industrial Road/Adeniyi Jones road in Ikeja. No motorist on that route seemed the least interested in giving way for the emergency vehicle to pass. Sadly, the time was around 8am, on a Monday morning – one of the most notorious rush hour periods in Lagos state. For all we know, the Fire service truck could have been racing to a building that is being consumed by inferno. The emergency vehicle was eventually left with no choice but to exercise patience and then go with the traffic flow. This begs the salient question: why do we find it difficult to spare a minute to grant emergency vehicles access in traffic? Are we that much in a hurry to get to our destinations in Lagos? Or could it be distrust because of often abuse of such privileges by emergency workers? https://autojosh.com/why-dont-nigerians-give-way-to-fire-service-service-trucks-or-other-emergency-workers-in-traffic-see-photos/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

Autojosh. The truth is, are those designated with using the Emergency Siren, rules and regulations, using it responsibly? No. So Nigerians have grown wary. It could be true these fire fighters have an Emergency to attend to. But there have been cases of them using the Emergency siren to clear the road to get to an Amala joint, for some good food. Few weeks ago, starting from the third mainland Bridge, all the way close to the international airport. I counted 23 Siren blaring, gun wielding Policemen/ Military men, on different convoys, escorting different big men to the Airport. None was an Emergency. It was a Sunday evening/night,and I knew most of us heading towards the Airport, was flying international. So why were these big men bullying people on the road again?why were they using the Emergency rules to push everyone out of the road, just to get to the Airport? Until laws are enacted and enforced, against the abuse of our Emergency codes by those in Authority, then I think Nigerians have a right to ignore them. 14 Likes 7 Shares |

Nigerians are angry, they just don't care for protocols anymore. Besides, all emergency vehicles are authorized to drive against traffic (one way) in times of emergency, so I don't see why that firetruck would decide to stay on queue if it was truly in a hurry. |

Really I find it Amazing.. But it's the Indiscipline both from the Agencies and the citizens .... While in Lagos I hv Witnessed Government Vehicles both state and local governments using Sirens for nothing.. just the driver in the vehicle and because it's a Government vehicle he wants to Manover... On My last visit I had a case with one Customs vehicle like dt... I think the Citizens feel it's just one of their Gimmicks to pass |

hahn:Actually, they can slow down for the fire vehicle to get into their lanes ahead of them. With that, the fire vehicle can meander their way through traffic. |

solutionist: O K Then I'll go with hungerbad's answer. Most Nigerians think sirens are a scope to get ahead of traffic. Same way drivers see zebra crossings as tom tom adverts 1 Like 1 Share |
