NANS PRESIDENT, COMR DANIELSON BAMIDELE BANS CONFERMENT OF AWARDS BY STUDENTS’ UNION

He added that "Students' awards to groups and organizations constitute distractions to Students' Union Bodies. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has banned the conferment of awards on individuals and organizations by all Students’ Union bodies in the country.

NANS President, Comrade Danielson Bamidele, GCNS announced this during the inauguration of the new Executives of the association in Abuja on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He explained that such award conferments on organisations, groups and individuals had become a source of distraction for Students.

He said there was a need for the Apex Student body to reform all Student Unions towards improving the education system and welfare of her members. He urged the Federal Government to seek more bilateral academic agreements with Foreign Universities.

The NANS President also assured that he would live up to the expectations of students by keeping his campaign promises including stopping the oppression and intimidation of Students by school Management and the Government, as well as attracting local and international training for members. *Barely two months into his administration, Comrade Bamidele has already started making tough decisions.

Recently, he ordered the immediate suspension of the planned protest by Law Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) over their disqualification into the Nigerian Law School.

Explaining why he called off the planned protest, Comrade Bamidele during an interview with Newsmen on Saturday, August 25, 2018, said the protest called by the NANS Senate President, Bamigbade Taiwo did not follow the due process. He added that the mass action, which was conveyed in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, did not have the backing and support of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
