Automatic transmission and manual transmission have been in competition since Adam, and although no one seems to be winning the war, at the end of the day it all boils down to the owner’s choice and what he can afford.

Frankly speaking, the automatic transmission is gaining more popularity in Nigeria more than a manual transmission system.

Autosage spoke to car dealers and mechanics, and these are our findings:

It is always a surprise that when you want to by a car, the automatic transmission is more expensive than a manual transmission.

According to Mr. Kingsley Eze, a car dealer in Beggar Apapa, Lagos, ‘there are more people buying automatic transmission than the manual transmission. That is why it is expensive’, he said.

But another dealer, Nikko, only said that automatic transmission is easier to drive.

However, I spoke to Mr David, a professional mechanical engineer, and here is what he said about automatic and manual transmission.

‘People are going for automatic transmission although they know that if the car breaks down on the road they can’t easily push it or move or roll it to start. Imagine your battery goes down, along a lonely road, you can’t just push the car to start.

‘But in a manual transmission, if the battery goes down, there is a way you can push the car and the engine will kick up again.

‘However, it is easier to maintain automatic transmission than to maintain a manual transmission system. This is because of the mechanism and the way it is built up connecting to the engine and the rotor.

‘Secondly, in a manual transmission, there is more wear and tear than an automatic transmission. This is due to the frequent changing of gears. The gearbox is in constant operation as gears shift from one to two to three and back again to zero and forth, the case is different in automatic in which the car works itself out once the gear is in the drive.

‘Also automatic transmission is easier to drive. Most people prefer automatic because you can literally enjoy sitting in the car and watch it go while you concentrate on the direction. Your job while driving is only to show the car where to go.
‘Again, automatic transmission engines last longer than manual transmission engines. This is because the engine works out its speed and controls the mechanisms of transmission which is not the case with the manual which is constantly overworked by the driver to meet his need for control.’

Here you have it, between automatic and manual transmission systems, we believe that whichever water that rocks your boat, you are now equipped to make an informed decision when that time comes.

What is this one saying na shocked

How is it easier to maintain an Auto Tranny compared to a manual?

How is there more wears and tears in a manual transmission compared to Auto? cheesy

Frequent Change of Gears in manual transmission, do they tell you and Auto tranny is stucked in a single gear and doesnt shift all through the journey? grin

Your Auto tranny Engine lasting longer compared to a manual tranny is based on what theory?

Even the fact that you are directing us to another thingy with the title "V4 and V6" shows how full of sh*t that write-up ll be.

U are not fit to educate someone else about cars not to talk of owning an Automobile website. Go back to the drawing board and learn the basics.

Most of the statements made heen are false and to be sincere in terms of maintenance, wear and tear and so manual beats automatic..... In terms of maintenance same thing it's just that it's only few people that knows how to handle manual very well believe me

This is the beauty of Nairaland.
You see, you don't have to feel guilty about anything you post here.
But you will earn other people's respect by sharing your view on why you disagree with whatever you read, instead of dishing insults.
