After Runway Incident, FAAN Reopens Abuja Airport 'subject To Reduced Threshold' by SageTravels: 3:36pm On Sep 13, 2018
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been reopened hours after its partial closure following a plane overshot Runway 22 of the airport.

The incident, which occurred around 10pm on Wednesday night, involved a Gulfstream 4 aircraft operated by Skybird airlines.

A statement by Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), noted that the aircraft "overshot the runway while landing and consequently got stuck on the Runway End Safety Area (RESA)".

FAAN, however, stated that the runway had been reopened to take arrivals and departures, "subject to a reduced threshold of 3000 metres".

It assured airlines and passengers that the airport is safe for normal operations.
