FIRMINO STRIKE SEES LIVERPOOL BEAT PSG IN THRILLING GAME

Roberto Firmino came off the bench to fire home an injury-time winner in a dramatic victory over Paris Saint Germain in their opening Champions League Group C game at Anfield.

Firmino was only fit enough to be on the bench after suffering an eye injury in Liverpool’s victory at Tottenham, but he emerged with 20 minutes left to secure a win.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain didn’t disappoint as they served up a Champions League classic. Such was the drama.

Liverpool was leading two goals to nil in the first half but they were stunned when Mbappe pounced in the area to beat Alisson with seven minutes left.

Klopp’s team had barely been troubled by PSG’s star-studded attacking line-up. PSG came armed. They had Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani. Angel Di Maria was in midfield and Thiago Silva in defence. But it was Liverpool dominated the game.

Daniel Sturridge made his mark. Drafted in due to Firmino’s eye injury. Klopp kept him for emergencies such as this, and he didn’t let his manager down as he scored the first goal with a header.

Milner doubled the lead from the penalty spot soon after. Liverpool looked ready to make it bloody. Thomas Meunier scored for PSG. Then came Mbappe who scored a brilliant goal to tie the game. It was Firmino’s late strike that sealed all 3 points for Liverpool.
