Studying Nursing In the University And School Of Nursing, Which Is Better? by Hahnemann: 12:56pm On Sep 19, 2018
Good day great Nairalanders

I wish to study Nursing Science, but I realise that some people go to school of Nursing while some are studying nursing in university, please what is the difference and what are the advantages that one have over the other?

At what level can one reach before choosing a specialty for instance theatre Nursing?

Thanks for your reply and God bless

University nursing is a five year course and u would be awarded a Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNSc) degree, while school of nursing is a 3 year course and u get a Registered Nurse RN/RNM kind of like a diploma. in the nursing hierarchy BNSc is higher than RN.
As for specialty after BNSc, u can go for your masters in any specialty while with RN u go for a 12-18 month post basic in any of the nursing specialty. hope this helps

Can One go for a BNSc degree after going through school of Nursing? If yes how many years will it take?
Thanks.

Yes. 4 years in any Nigerian university (if through direct entry), but just 1 year minimal (could be more due to resits) in most universities overseas.
