Let’s give it a try.

So, one day there is a pan-African referendum.. In this referendum the posed question is: “Should African Union de-legalize all kinds of foreign aid, including financial, material and other?”.

Few hundred million people say “yes”. Now it’s officially illegal to help Africa.

Now, fast forward few years. Let’s see what happened.

What changes into better:

1. With lack of the humanitarian aid, Africa gets rid of humanitarian money-driven wars and catastrophes.

TV and internet suddenly got lesscatastrophic. No more black kids being hugged by Angelina Jolie on every other billboard. No more UNICEF asking you for money blackmailing with of all the people who “would die without you”.

They can’t send money to Africa, so they ceased working.*

*Ok, in fact they just abuse Asia and South America more now.

Interestingly, it seems like indeed there are fewer catastrophes happening. Maybe because Africans address them themselves, with local knowledge.

Situations like Goma camp happen less. In Goma, Western humanitarian aid was, in fact, financing the Hutu army - responsible for genocide. Less hunger. Yes, you hear me right. Like in Ethiopia, where the regime was creating situation of catastrophe to get rid of the opposition and get rich on the customs imposed on the humanitarian aid.

Fewer warlords who are indirectly financed by the humanitarian aid they can prey on.

2. Amounts on the accounts of some African assholes stop raising.

With lack of aid in general many inter-governmental shady deals disappear. It’s impossible now to hide corruption under developmental aid.

You could even make a case it made African governments less dependent!

3. Remember the pretentious hippie-looking jerk, who was all about telling the chicks how he was helping in Africa and showing shiny amulets?

Good news, he’s gone.

No more Western NGOs (or MONGO’s - My Own NGOs) buying off land or getting money from i.e. Europe just to finance lifestyle of their own workers (having operational costs at 40–50%).

No more sending lost, naïve, but rich Western kids to Africa just so they could steal jobs from locals. Finally the job done by those hippies is done by Africans, for a market price that fuels the economy.

Cutting the aid and the influx of volunteers saves Africa from a lot of parasitic relations and helps to make its economies more rational. Same goes with:

4. Most of the senseless projects (which don’t take into account local environments and, in fact, worsen situation, instead of making it better) disappear.

Now, local authorities more often prioritize their actions based on their own assessment of needs, not on “what do they give money for now?”.

5. Lack of material help revives small enterpreneurship.

Remember the granny who stole your old shoes and clothes to send them to Africa? She has to do bingo now.

In result, a lot of small businesses appear in Africa. Turns out, now thousands of people are making shoes, tailoring clothes, and make a good living out of it. It seemed it was impossible before, right? It’s better than that! The money their customers spend stays in Africa.

All you had to do is stop sending your old shit there.
