*Feed alone takes 65 to 70% of the total cost in producing either eggs or meat from poultry.*

From this approximately 70%, about 95% is to meet up the bird's *energy and protein* requirements, while just 3% is meant for *major (essential) minerals, trace mineral and vitamin* requirements, and 2% is for various *feed additives*.

Please note, The feed ingredients should be strictly selected based on the following factors;
1, *nutrients they can provide,*
2, *The absence of anti-nutritional or toxic factors*,
3, *Acceptability or effect on voluntary feed intake, and*
4, *cost.*

Most importantly, farmers should know which feed ingredients are needed and how they should be used in poultry diets formulation.

More so, Animal protein meals are good sources of essential *amino acids* such as lysine and methionine. They are also very good sources of energy and minerals, most especially, *calcium and phosphorus.*

However, there may be significant difference in availability *(nutrients absorption and retention)* of the amino acids due to difference in inputs as well as *processing conditions (temperature, moisture, pressure and time).*

I will conclude by dropping two of my favorite quotes;
1, *The feed ingredients rejected by a serious farmer don't go back to the supplier, they definitely get accepted by another farmer.*
2, *when your animal nutrition and management is apt, chemotherapy is just an avoidable luxury*
