Spain, Holland For Historic World Cup Final by dolu2007(m): 8:06am On Jul 08, 2010 |
A new world champion would be crowned in Sunday’s final at the Soccer City Stadium as Spain, yesterday, surged into their first appearance in a World Cup final, after edging out three-time champions, Germany 1-0, in a semifinal match in Durban. Spain, who are the current European champions, play Holland in a final, that neutrals would savour. It promises to be a great feast of free-flowing attacking football from both finalists. None of them had won the World Cup before. This makes the 2010 World Cup unique. A second-half goal from Barcelona defender Carles Pujol brought Spain a deserving reward for the consistent pressure in their showdown against Germany. Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque brought in midfielder Pedro in place of Fernando Torres who had failed to show his old sharp-shooting form after returning to action only just in time for the World Cup after knee surgery. Pedro’s inclusion meant a lone role up front for David Villa, the World Cup’s five-goal top scorer. The switch very nearly brought an early goal. In the sixth minute Pedro threaded a pass into the German defence, Arne Friedrich let the ball run, not realising how fast Villa was closing in behind him. Villa reached the ball just ahead of Manuel Neuer but his stab at a shot ricocheted away off the goalkeeper’s legs. Spain were looking far more fluid and aggressive than in any of their earlier games. Xavi and Andres Iniesta were enjoying the freedom of midfield but Carles Pujol powered a diving header over the bar after Iniesta fired in a high-speed cross following a Xavi corner on the right. Within minutes Kroos should have scored. He ran in, unmarked, on to a left-wing chipped cross from Lukas Podolski only to see Spanish captain Casillas drop alertly to the ground to beat the shot away. That proved a crucial save. In the 73rd minute Spain attacked yet again, won yet another left-wing corner and this time saw Xavi’s kick headed home unstoppably by Pujol, charging late into the penalty box to rise above opponents and team-mates alike. Playing against Spain is like playing against barcelona with an injured lionel messi, Netherlands are no match for Spain, the question is can netherland play barcelona and go unpunished? Spain has already won. The spanish team is just too formidable and organize, A complete barcelona team with extra real madrid service, what a team. Barcelona is the best club in the world and over 70% of barca players are in the spanish team, i wish messi was with them, it would have made it more easier. Spain 3:1 holland |

Zero2:with over 80% ball possession and passes,it took a defender to nod in a goal. na air go score the 3 goals u predicted? You may not agree but with Arjen Robben,Sneider, Van Bommel,Kurt etc, i foresee a good win for Holland. |

with over 80% ball possession and passes,it took a defender to nod in a goal. even if spain won't score as much as that, i still believe spain will take the day no matter what happens. After all bercelona defeated a real madrid team built around dutch players with an unbelievable margin 6-2 to be precise. Where was sneider, robben and the rest of them. They where the best players on the pitch for real madrid but fail to leave up to expectation. On several occasions sneider has been so useless against xavi and ineista, the only occasion he managed was in the inter 3-1 win agaist barcelona in the champions league semi final. The simple truth is that sneider is no match for xavi or ineista. They are going to make him look so ordinary, they've always done that against sneider. I don't see robben or snieder doing anything great in that match. May be some else but not any of these two stars. Please come to this page and quote me wrong after the match. Holland don't even have a good and well organized defence like germany. Their goal keeper is not as good as cassilas. Spain is the better side when you check them in every aspect. Spain is going to rip them apart. It won't even look like a world cup final match, lets bet if you doubt me. It's going to be a one sided game. Spain will end up victorious. |

Kx: Not on a personal note, I see all these animal predictions atrocious. Its funny no one ''yet'' on nairaland is seeing it as babaric. If someone came out to say the Ifa oracle or Okija predicted spain to win or holland to win, many would accuse us of backwardness, unscientific, unreasonable and unreliable. Just because its being conducted by a german and singaporean, its o.k. UTTER BALDERDASH. |

And just as Unexpected ly germany couldnt surpass espana, I wont be suprised if spain find it hard to find hollands net. They are just like Barcelona without messi, all possesion little goal to show for it(villa being the only functional striker for them). Whoever wins am o.k with it. Spain; for Casillas' case. Holland; for sneijder's case |
