The All Progressives Congress has said that it would conduct fresh legislative primaries across the 192 in Edo State on Saturday .
The chairman of the state primary election committee, Hajia Farida Suleiman , disclosed this to journalists on Friday evening , after a meeting with party members at the state secretariat in Benin, the state capital .
The National Working Committee had on Thursday cancelled what it described as “ authorised congresses ” held in the state to elect candidates for the 2019 general elections.
The state chapter had rejected the decision , adding the exercise was held in accordance with the party ’ s guidelines .
But Suleiman said that the exercise organised on Thursday remained illegal as it was not conducted by the committee.
She , however , assured that the committee would ensure a free , fair and transparent exercise .
She also expressed hope that it would meet the deadline given by the leadership of the APC.
Efforts to reach the State Chairman , Mr. Anselm Ojezua , for comments were unsuccessful.
Calls put across to his mobile phone number rang out and he had yet to respond to a text message sent to him .
