TEENSED FOUNDATION JOINS OTHER ORGANISATIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD TO CELEBRATE THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD.

The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on 11th October. The main aims of the day are to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.

Each year’s International Day of the Girl has its own theme, past themes have included EmPower Girls: Before, During and After Crisis (2017) and Girls Progress = Goals Progress: What Counts For Girls (2016)

Launched in 2012 by the United Nations general assembly, amongst the issues focused on by the International Day of the Girl Child are education, equality, child marriage, access to services regarding puberty and sexual health and addressing issues around gender-based violence.

For 2018 International Day of the Girl Child (11 October), themed “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, Teensed foundation in collaboration with Hope inspired foundation and iRead Network gathered students from various schools at UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTER IKOYI Lagos to encourage them o the importance of acquiring hands on and soft skills that they require to continue to be relevant in the nearest future. The girls were inspired to embrace their dreams no matter what it is, face their fears, be innovative and take charge of their own future.

The Executive director and founder of TEENSED foundation, Ogechukwu Ezeokoli who spoke on skills and future readiness, emphasized that boys and girls need to be empowered side by side so the we don't empower only the girls with skills and knowledge to the point that boys become unskilled and begin to feel less of humans thereby creating another set of problems in the society. We therefore involved the boys in our discussions and solutions in this year's international day of the girl child.

This is a critical time for the girls of our world, as Ambassador (Mrs) Unyime Ivy King; President Save Our Women and Girls (SOW&G) Foundation stated in her Keynote Address: With Her: A Skilled GirlForce - Limitless Opportunities
The 1.1 billion girls of today’s world are challenging the status quo. They’re redefining girlhood, and they’re doing so against the odds.

Across the world, girls face adversities that hinder their education, training and entry into the workforce. They have less access to information, communication technology and resources yet they are not giving up. There are limitless opportunities for young people in this world of Technology and young girls can catch in on this and achieve all they want in life.

Among the Participants of this year's international day of the girl child were people living with disabilities. These participants also profered solutions to some of the sustainable development goals according to the challenges they face in there disabilities.
