Why did he plead guilty? To avoid lengthy trial and lengthy sentence. A crook will always be a crook. And this thief was welcome with opening arms

This man is like a god in his hometown Oghara.
He attracted a lot of downstream oil companies in that town which boasts of West Africa's deepest river (Ethiope river).
Unfortunately, his good deeds was rubbished by corruption.

James Ibori loses appeal against UK fraud conviction

James Ibori, a former Delta State governor who was jailed in Britain for laundering tens of millions of dollars in stolen public funds through British banks and properties, lost an appeal against his conviction in London on Wednesday.
.
.
Ibori, who in his heyday was one of Nigeria’s most powerful men, pleaded guilty in a London court in 2012, to 10 counts of fraud and money-laundering involving sums amounting to at least $66 million.
.
.
He received a 13-year jail sentence of which he served half, as is common in the British system. Despite his guilty pleas, appealed against his conviction alleging that one of the London police officers who had investigated him, was himself corrupt and that the prosecution had covered that up.
.
.
Three senior appeal judges said the corruption of the police officer was not proven, but in any case it was irrelevant to Ibori’s conviction because if it had happened, he had instigated it.
.
.
The ruling will allow British prosecutors to resume efforts to confiscate tens of millions of dollars’ worth of assets and return them to Nigerian public coffers. The assets have been frozen for years while the case has been dragging through the courts.
.
.
During his eight years in office, Ibori enjoyed a jet-setting lifestyle, buying multi-million dollar properties in England, South Africa and the United States as well as a Bentley, a Jaguar and other luxury cars. At the time of his arrest, he was in the process of buying a $20-million Bombardier private jet.

See PDP thief face. No shame.

How he was allowed to participate / vote in Port Harcourt still baffles me.

PDP is promoting corruption all the way from its presidential candidate to.......... to councillor.

CHIEF JAMES ONANEFE IBORI AND HIS BROTHER, DR. EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN ARE THE WORST NIGHTMARE EVER TO HIT DELTA STATE.

They collectively set Delta state behind in terms of economic growth, industrialization and general development for good 16 years.

Their 8 years tenure each provided an atmosphere for them to loot, loot and loot till the treasury got empty.

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was not even tired he fought his then Accountant General to make a last minute looting before handing over.

Clever enough the Accountant general who was of Delta North origin switch off his handset, feign sickness and went and hide.

It was a very painful experience for Dr. Uduaghan who wanted to drain the last kobo in the Delta state treasury.

I am not coming year to tell stories, the information of the scenario that developed that very day is there on the internet for any information savvy individual to google up.

Now, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is greedily jostling to enter the Senate after wasting good 8 years achieving nothing for the good people of Delta state.

NO INDUSTRIES FOR YOUTH TO WORK.

NO POWER PLANT TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY

NO GOOD ROAD NETWORK

NO MAJOR INDUSTRIALIZATION LIKE THE ONES THAT IS IN KANO STATE, LAGOS STATE AND PORT HARCOURT.

That was all the legacies of Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan case was even the worse among the two as Chief Ibori at least constructed some relative network of road ( not very much though compared with the money he got from the federation account )

Since Chief Ibori performed poorly as a governor, forced and thrusted Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan on Deltans who performed even worse.

Why is he asking for justice?

Did he gave justice to the many Deltans whom his administration frustrated and made poor.

Yes he stole, but he worked in his state.

Sincerely reasoning like this is the reason these politicians will not stop stealing. They will believe once they steal big and do little projects gullible people like yourself will be comfortable with their administration.

Dear BlueRdick, I try not to answer mentions but I will answer u. I am not gullible. Most Nigerian politicians are thieves! So why should they point a finger at one thief when four are pointing back at them? I don't like hypocrites!
I hope you know that Ibori himself pleaded guilty?
He pointed the whole five fingers at himself by that move.

I don't want to go into details of how he ended up in the UK so as not to cause a commotion in this forum among his apologists like u.

Half truth in your post but quite obvious to Illuminated minds that Jonathan & pdp set a lion of Urhobo Nation up in 2010 after the demise of yardu'a, Olorogun James Onanefe Ibori should join forces with Olorogun Ovedje Ogboru of APC to outst pdp from Dennis Osadebe house in Asaba, payback time.
