Nigeria to start exporting cement by 2011 -Dangote

The Managing Director, Dangote Group, Mr. Knut Ulvmoe, on Wednesday said that Nigeria would soon begin exporting cement to countries.

Ulvmoe told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that with the current production trend, the country was likely to start exporting cement by 2011.

He said, "The nation's cement production will soon hit about 28 million tonnes from about 12.5 million tonnes annually.

"There is hope that by 2011, Nigeria will begin to export cement to other countries.''

According to him, there are many ongoing cement projects in the country that are at various stages of completion.

He said that the projects would inject millions of tonnes of cement into the market.

Ulvmoe said that the initiative of former President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration to encourage local production of cement had started yielding the desired benefits.

He said, "The initiative spurred most of the importers like the Dangote Group to invest massively in setting up new cement factories and rehabilitate moribund plants.

"This initiative has resulted in full-scale production of cement in the country."

This guy is smart!!

Funny thing is people easy criticize him ignorantly (or basically because he is a northerner!), smart men align themselves with government policies to take advantage- but this guy will be criticized for monopolising this and that even though others are given license and waivers just like him

2 years ago some were given extra license/capacity to import, these little ducks with big mouth were shouting they will break the monopoly and bring the price of cement to under 1000N where are they now? silly sods

and how comes otedola never gets accused of monopolicing the diesel market like dangote?

I don't know much about the man, but I at least appreciate the fact that his company has something to show for all that has been reported. Over and over, even in Ikorodu, you can definitely tell he is PRODUCING RESULTS, results that actually translate to improvement in lives of people in the communities where he sets up office.
