Before you snigger at this headline, please give Abass Akande Obesere, disputed Paramount King of Fuji music, the benefit of proving himself.



While many were fixated on the world cup, the former bawdy singer was perfecting the bars on his album and fine-tuning collaborations on his hip hop album which has got a September release date.



In fact, the eight tracker, featuring Timaya, Lord of Ajasa and 9ice, is titled Revolution. It is a double album with the accompaniment being his trademark Fuji.



Wait a minute, forgiving his constant grammatical flubs, why would you doubt the Ibadan, Oyo State born singer‘s ability to do hip hop?



Have you forgotten that he featured on 2008 Star Quest winners, Diamonds‘ Bo Sokoto track and made it a worthwhile listen? Don‘t forget also that he was part of the popular reality show, Gulder Ultimate Celebrity Showdown where he held his own among the galaxy of contemporary entertainers.



So proud of his new effort is the ‘born again’ singer that he has been telling his fans and friends, enthusiasts n dissidents, that Revolution would indeed help to revolutionise his career and put him on a pedestal far above his contemporaries and also make him a substantive crossover musician.



Curiously, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma should have laid claim to this title having boasted long before now that he was working on a hip hop album that would feature his past collaborators like Olu Maintain, 9ice, Pastor Goody Goody and defunct Remedies.



Pasuma, whose sweetheart romance with corporate Nigeria and the hip hop crowd remains the envy of other Fuji artistes must have thought a hip hop album would be a walk over but somebody seems to have shaken him off his reverie.



Interestingly, Obesere, hitherto an anathema to corporate brands because of his weird dress sense and raunchy lyrics, is also raising the bar by selling his albums for N1,000; a move pioneered by Tu Face Idibia and which is now catching on, real fast among musicians.
