Are The Dedicated BRT Lanes In Lagos Now Free For All? (see PHOTOS) by autojosh: 11:46am On Oct 24, 2018 |
A common joke these days is that - since losing out on his re-election bid – Governor Ambode has retired from working. The basis for this – perhaps, humorous - theory is what appears to be a relaxed administration on several government functions in the state. A good example is how, these days, there seem to be little or no effort to clear the ubiquitous heaps of refuse on the streets. Well, this might appear as a mischievous theory, but certain activities seem to support that line of thought. For instance, one function that has been significantly relaxed is the enforcement of the non-violation of the law prohibiting the use of the BRT lanes by non-BRT, non-emergency vehicles. Instead, it has become a common sight to this law being contravened. The dedicated BRT lanes are now used by Okadas, Danfos, personal vehicles, military or police vehicles, etc., use the BRT lanes to escape traffic bottlenecks. Interestingly, the once-upon-a-time efficient BRT Lane Monitoring task force appear to have gone missing. It is worthy of note that during the administration of Gov. Fashola, there was a strict adherence to that law. However, these day, it appears as if LASTMA officials– who are the primary enforcers of this law – seem to have decided to look the other way. Some theorists suggest that this became a common practice after the rebuke of the LASTMA officials by Governor Ambode for a more “civil” way of dealing with traffic law offenders. The BRT lane is a component of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. It is designed to increase the frequency of trips by BRT buses, especially at peak times. https://autojosh.com/are-the-dedicated-brt-lanes-in-lagos-now-free-for-all-see-photos/ 1 Like

We all know that Nigeria doesn't work. They will come up with a law and only enforce it for "a while", then it's back to jungle living. No hawkers law No Okada law No one way law Lane discipline law No littering law ... Welcome to the Jungle. Vote Sowore 2019 for true change, not all this Ex this and that, Ex military president, Ex vice president, bla bla bla... Nigeria will be great without these old guards. 17 Likes 1 Share |

Lagos state which our people dilligently developed and put amongst the cities of the world has now become the capital of lawlessness. Just go to Alimosho and you'd weep for the lawlessness there, if you even try to correct them, they'd boldly tell you, "if we no dey lawless for this Lagos, wetin we gain?" 20 Likes 3 Shares |

The BRT lanes are a nuisance. They have worsened the go slow situation in every road that they were carved out. Ikorodu road used to be a free flowing road even during peak hours. Hardly did u see go slow there until the BRT lanes were carved out. How can just 500 or 1000 BRT buses have a road lane exclusively for them while the other 2 million vehicles including other commercial buses share the rest four. The only way in which the BRT lanes can be effective is if there are at least 10,000 BRT buses plying those routes at every given moment. No wonder the solution to Lagos traffic remains because the people that should solve it act without thinking. 11 Likes |

The hypocrisy of some Lagosians ! You campaigned for change of party at the national level due to alleged misgovernance but blind to see that one party has been ruling Lagos since 1999 and considering that Lagos is the 6th largest economy in Africa, the city is not comparable to Cairo, Capetown etc. Lagosians will rather compare Lagos to Edo whose economy is not up-to 1/10 that of Lagos. Lagos is highly misgoverned, with massive corruption that can only be uncovered if another party takes over. Yeye dey smell 18 Likes 1 Share |

Ambode has really digressed from the blueprint of Lagos state. This is one of the many sins of Ambode, that's why he could not win the party ticket. 7 Likes |

bedspread:Why involving Tinubu? Ambode cannot rule Lagos. During Fashola keke napep doesn't operate beyond 7pm in VI,but since Ambode came in they operate till dawn. In VI,come and see Aboki Agbero causing nuisance. Ambode has made lawlessness to take over every where. 8 Likes |

It's LASTMA's job to enforce this. It ordinarily should have nothing to do with the state of mind or mood swings of Govenor Ambode. |
