We have been paying #145 cause of subsidy, now these guys claiming they been paying #53 on each litre. In essence a litre should be #145+#53=#198/ltr. This is really a mistake of a nation. VaselineCrew: 3 Likes |

Buhari met subsidy payment at 300 billion Naira a year and today it's 1.4 trillion Naira a year. Buhari met fuel pump price at N97/litre and today it's N145/litre Why should a terribly high subsidy payment have an over bloated pump price?. Abeg maKe una asK APC. Dipville: yes oo, actually I think landing cost today of petrol is even higher at around N203, due to increased Oil prices. Every one know we need refineries if we ever want to have cheap petrol without subsidy, but it's funny how Tinubu, Buhari and the rest were acting like subsidy is a fraud back in the day, lol. We need refineries to work ASAP, it makes no sense that a country that has oil ships it overseas and then buys back petrol, sigh 3 Likes |

Africans are First Class m.rr.o.n.s You export crude oil, earn dollar. Then you convert the dollar to Naira. 1. Anybody who thought Buhari had removed subsidy in 2015....needs his head checked. (Sorry!) 2.What happened was that landing price of fuel had gone up to N132...making the then N87 price unsustainable...meaning that we had to increase fuel...or marketers would have gone out of business. 3.Here is the truth....if you want subsidy to go...you have to let the marketers set the prices....not government setting the price. 4.Here is thecold reason why government is setting prices...if they were not, fuel would go up to N200 and above. 5.And if fuel goes up to N200 and above....the APC government would be swept out ofoffice via revolution. And replaced with a government who would promptly resubsidise fuel. 6.It is blatantly obvious, however, that we are wasting money on subsidy. N53 per liter can be used on better things...like railways, and power for example. 7.Anyone saying that we should fix the refinereis to bring down fuel costs...is also talking without understanding. I doubt that producing a liter of refined fuel in Nigeria would cost less than N200. So, Dangote will not save us UNLESS....we dregulate. Deregulation is the answer. GEJ was on to something in 2012. Nigerians foolishly told him NO. Now...here we are....a corrupt subsidyr egimen, corruption in subsidy payments, lack of investment in fuel, etc....WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING....if we had been sensible enough not to go on protest back then. Oil subsidy MUST GO...since 1993. 5 Likes 1 Share |

AtikuDeman: Maxymilliano: Back when Buhari made that comment...that was the time of the subsidy scams...when people were collecting subsidy claim for fuel not imported. Hence the comment. Thing is, many of those people who were doing it were doing so because under subsidy they could not earn suitable profits. So, they lied to stay afloat. Only one way to sortout this problem....remove subsidy, let fuel sell for N200 and above. YES....people will suffer...but NNPC won't have any justificaiton to continue with the corruption train a la subsidy. But we Nigerians want low oil price....not knowing we are fuelling the corruption machine. |

Next, you convert the naira back to dollar Next, you import fuel refined from the crude you just exported... There is no where else where such is obtainable apart from Africa. Why? Then, all the Government officials need to do, is just to add N1.00 to the amount paid as subsidy, multiply that by the number of litres of fuel consumed in the whole country in a year, and you will understand why they people just to get a small position in government. 1 Like |

Buhari had the golden opportunity to deregulate the oil price when crude oil prices but bluntly refused to grab it even with one hand. Whether the oil is imported or not is the issue but the existence of a wasteful subsidy. The removal of the subsidy would provide each state, with an extra N500m monthly, money they desperately need. 4 Likes |

jamace: Thing is...if we had removed subsidy ...all this corruption won't be happening. The corruption is happening because marketers are not making enough cash under subsidy. As a result...they prefer to do fraudulent oilcontracts so as to collect money to keep their heads above water. All thisd would end if Buhari removes subsidy., and allows marketers to sell at the price they want to sell. That would end all the subsidy claim nonsense...and even in the long term bring about competition related price reduction. NNPC would finally have no excuses to hide under corruption. But because Nigerians like cheap fuel..... |

grandstar: Oga....you really want APC out of power... Seriously, no Nigerian government will attempt to remove subsidy....even though they know IT MAKES COMPLETE ECONOMIC SENSE....because all Nigerians will see is that fuel was N145 today, now it is N230. There would be revolution.... (Some people cited GEJ's increase of fuel price from N65 to N97 as their reason for voting him out in 2015). So, we will waste money on subsidy, and keep on doing so...because ....the people want cheap fuel. (The other day, some people were praising Venezuela for their fuel price of N40 per liter....forgetting that keeping the price low has drained their foreign reserve, and messed up their petroleum sector...zero cash for new investments). 2 Likes |
