President Muhammadu Buhari today inaugurated the 600 million dollars new international terminal at the Port Harcourt International Airport funded by the Export-Import Bank of China and the Nigerian Government.

With him during the commissioning were Minister of Labour Chris Ngige, Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike, Minister of State Aviation Hadi Sirika and Rivers APC Gubernatorial Candidate Mr Tonye Cole.

Port Harcourt International Airport (IATA: PHC, ICAO: DNPO) is an international airport located in Omagwa, a suburb of Port Harcourt, the capital city of the Rivers State in Nigeria. The airport has a single terminal with separate facilities for international and domestic flights. In 2009, the airport served 1,081,587 passengers, making it the third-busiest airport in Nigeria.

On 18 August 2006, the airport was closed for repairs. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority stated that the emergency shutdown was in order to overhaul the runway and build a fence around the facility. Such maintenance had been in planning stages for several months, but an electrical fire on 17 August 2006 made repairs immediately necessary. All domestic flights were diverted to Sam Mbakwe Airport (Owerri), Akanu Ibiam International Airport (Enugu) and Margaret Ekpo International Airport (Calabar), while international flights were diverted to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja) or Murtala Mohammed International Airport (Lagos).

Repair work started in January 2007, while re-opening was originally expected to be in August 2007. In June 2007, work was suspended due to safety concerns of the engineers.

In December 2007, the airport was reopened to a limited capacity. Operations were restricted to daytime until the first quarter of 2008, by which time the new CAT III lighting system became fully operational.

AutoReportNG was able to obtain some exclusives of the interior of the airport.

Don't mind me. I was seeking for likes and shares which I can sell to raise money. I heard the fastest way to get them is to credit GEJ or patience for every good thing happening in Nigeria today cheesy

Actually, dumbo, it WAS a contract. I knew someone would come in here and find a way to deride the project.

If these pictures came from Ghana or Mali or Togo, or Uganda, or Senegal, this thread would have been flooded with people praising it, and condemning Nigeria for not being like that. But it is shown to be in Nigeria, and nobody cares. The few goats like you, who come in, will come in to criticise it. Bunch of self-hating peabrains. And you wonder why outsiders treat you like trash when you see nothing good in yourselves.

It's not a contract. It's an investment by the Chinese. Loan is repayable. Between 10-20 years. With atleast. 2.5 interest rate.
Bye dummy

Illiterate.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation are the CONTRACTORS for the project.

“This is a contract, it has its clauses that can be invoked. It is a contract between two parties . If he is not doing his part of the bargain we will definitely invoke that contractual provision.''

- Sen. Hadi Sirika. Minister of State For Aviation.

NAWOAAA!!!!

these are not the things we need!!!
None of our airports are world standard or able to take heavy traffic but we want to build more
Who will be doing the travelling when most of the country is wallowing in poverty?

Our leaders are totally out of touch with reality!!!!

The billions to trillions of naira that was wasted on this project could have been invested on the roads in the state. Lets do the basics FIRST!!!

-------------------------
The south east and south south does not have any viable high capacity sea port that would ease up traffic in Lagos and make things easier for business men in that region while generating money for the state government. A decent sea port would've automatically attracted most if not all if the businessmen that engage in import and export to port Harcourt.

The two MAJOR international airports we have in Nigeria is enough for now. Lagos and Abuja can serve us. Wr need to stop clapping and cheering projects that have very little impacts on the common man. An airport is not what pH needs.

If we can't privatize the management of airports, then sorry. FAAN is just as bad as the Govt in charge. Lack vision and only for their interest

You know when this was conceived, the country was recording 7 % economic growth and it made sense because there was much activities and business environment was improving. For instance, Emirates was flying between Dubai and Lagos twice a day. United airlines was having daily flights form Lagos but the latter reduced their flights to one a day and United airlines stopped coming to Nigeria. This was a result of Buhari's inability to handle the economy.
It was a good thought.
Nevertheless, we hope they maintain it. And not politics.
