Killings In Kaduna, Zamfara, Benue, Etc, Fuelled By Abuse Of Social Media — NSA by RabbleRouser1: 7:22am On Oct 26, 2018 |
National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd), said yesterday, that intelligence findings have revealed that several of the crises and killings taking place in the country, particularly Kaduna, Zamfara, Benue and Plateau states, were fuelled by abuse of the social media by those who do not mean well for the country. Consequently, he said the Federal Government has banned unauthorised acquisition of firearms, drones and some specialised broadcast equipment. Disclosing this during the General Security Appraisal Committee meeting at the Office of NSA, ONSA, in Abuja, Mongonu noted that the abuse of social media platforms, in addition to illicit acquisition of controlled items by non-state actors, had become the major source of insecurity in the country. He warned those already in possession of these unauthorised items to surrender them to the appropriate authorities to avoid the full wrath of the law. The NSA said: “Members of the public are sternly warned against illicit acquisition of controlled items such as firearms, remotely piloted aircraft (drones) and broadcast equipment, among others. “Accordingly, those with such illegally acquired controlled items are, hereby, advised to voluntarily surrender them to the appropriate security agencies.” The NSA, who was flanked by Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Director-General of Department of State Services, DSS, Mr. Yusuf Bichi, and Chief of Defence Intelligence Agency, CDI, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman, and representatives of other security agencies, cited Benue, Plateau, Zamfara and Kaduna states as areas abuse of social media platforms through fake news, hate speech and incitement had fuelled insecurity. Against this backdrop, Monguno said the Federal Government was taking all necessary measures to address the underlying unresolved conflicts and bring all perpetrators to justice. He said: “The Federal Government is concerned that social media and other communication platforms are now used to exacerbate tension through rumour, hate speech and incitement. “Nigerians are reminded that all laws and regulations against hate speech and incitement will be fully enforced to ensure peace, security and freedom for all Nigerians wherever they chose to live. “In a bid to address these spates of civil disturbances, heads of security agencies have reviewed the internal security situation and resolved to take all necessary measures within the law to curb this violence.” In order to further ensure security of persons and confidentiality of reports by citizens, he said ONSA had activated its crisis response platform for anonymous reporting of suspicious activities and security incidents. This is a clear case of ignoring the problem staring you in the face to clutch at straws in the hope of confusing everyone. The real conflicts is LAND and some people's historical penchant for chasing others out of their ancestral homes not social media which came out just yesterday. How many of the killers owns phones? Social media only wails at the wanton destruction of lives and properties and shows outrage over the lack of interest by the authorities. 3 Likes 1 Share |

How many people in these villages been attacked have access to social media, or even know what it is in the first place. Yet, the Jihadist government blames the social media for the coordinated ethnic cleansing happening in the country. Don't blame only social media Monguno, blame God himself. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Still blame tactics. Who is social media? Soon they will blame air. The cause of the killings and destruction is clear the evidence glaring at these fools who claim to be security agencies yet they refused to act for evil reasons best known to them. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Did Social Media also point Fulani's to green fertile lands ? Maybe social media also triggers the extra judicial army/police killings also. Buhari must have asked them to step up their efforts on BH and they are only trying to stem the heat from social media. |

So the military is telling us that Fulani herdsmen also use social media? This is a dumb excuse by the military to hide their incompetent. |

BEHOLD, NIGERIANS THIS IS YOUR PROBLEMS... AND WILL BE WORSE WHEN BUHARI RETURNS BACK IN 2019. READ AND BE THE JUDGE. BREAKING!!! Gen . TY Danjuma explodes Retired Lt. Gen. Theophilous Danjuma yesterday asked the people of Middle-Belt, South-West, South-South & South-East to forget all about 2019 Elections but to first fight back the Fulani murderous invaders and reclaim their lands which are now under Fulani occupation. General Danjuma stated unambiguously that President Buhari is the direct founder and sponsor of Miyetti Allah and had concluded plans to provide safe heavens for all West African Fulanis in the entire SOUTH and the MIDDLE BELT. He made it clear that War had already been declared, going by the spate of relentless killings here and there, lamenting that helpless victims are predominantly Christians. The retired General warned that Buhari has used Tinubu to divide South-West and that plans are underway to overrun Yoruba Kingdom and make them subordinate to Hausa-Fulani Oligarchy. He equally lamented that from secrets file obtained, the conquest of Yoruba would commence as soon as they are through with Middle-Belt reqions. And that soonest they take hostage of Yoruba, their brothers from Sudan, Guinea, and other West African descent would combine to fight South-East and South-South. Danjuma regretted that while the rest of Middle Belt and South are under invasion led by Army Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Buratai, our politicians are playing to the gallery, giving Buhari all necessary supports. Danjuma opined that at present the Presidency has been taken over by Miyetti Allah and has vowed to retain Buhari in power even if it means shedding the blood of any opposition. Stating that should the people fail to rise now and put an end to this, either you are a moslem after 2019 or in Exile. Note: War has been going on in Taraba and parts of Jigawa States and hundreds are killed daily. In Kaduna few days ago more that 220 persons were killed by foreign mercinaries imported by Buhari's Fulanis. As I write this, information coming that Imo State shall be the hotbed because of its centralised location and once it is captured, the entire SE/SS is gone. And that Imo governorship election shall be used to ignite the Holocaust. https://newsflash247.com.ng/2018/10/25/buhari-is-the-sponsor-of-fulani-jihadists-invasion-gen-ty-danjuma-explodes/ |

Drone owners have you heard? You need to hand in your drones or face the full wrath of the law!! On a more serious note, Nigeria has been slow in coming up with strict regulations for drone operators. The process is long with a lot of back and forth. I have been on it for 3 years now but thankfully we are getting there. |

Same Social media the APC used to spread hateful lies & propaganda in 2015? So these senseless killings by the murderous fulani herdsmen are no more due to the -famed anti-grazimg laws, -Unscrupulous/aggrieved politicians? -failure of the victims to accommodate the killers? -Gaddaffi trained militias in Lybia, Niger, Guinea & Mali? -Climate change or changing dynamics of the lake Chad basis? APC can't forge a common front on what a serious security problem yet still seeking another mandate from Nigerians. 1 Like |

Very true! The way people post unverified and inciteful content on the social media calls for truely drastic measures. Some post these contents with malicious intent and all sundry evil reasons. Some foolishly and ignorantly propagate falsehood. Very welcome. |

Sprumbabafather:It is definitely a factor. There is a fellow here on Nairaland who goes about pasting stories on Rtd. Gen. Danjuma blowing hot about Buhari as the sponsor of 'Fulani herdsmen' killings, to the extent that Gen. Danjuma is urging boycott of the elections and urging people of the Middle Belt to take up arms. You sure knows what the fellow's intention is. These stories inflame passions, change narratives and can make some to act. IPOB, for example, do this regularly. They abuse the minds of their supporters and some act on their messages. There's a story out now that Kanu will address IPOB tomorrow to unmask that Buhari we're seeing is not the real one, but 'Jubril' from Sudan. What's the purpose if not to just cause confusion and mislead? 1 Like 1 Share |

The govt have left the actual Fulani killers who are armed to the teeth and now passing the blame to someone on social media criticising the killings...if the Fulanis don't kill will anyone go to social media to talk about it ? This govt is such a waste of time abeg.... Now they want to use the opportunity to be flying cameras so their election rigging cannot be monitored |

In part, the NSA is right. But the truth is that these killings have always been happening since decades ago. The difference now is that social media now makes the news to travel faster and reach wider audiences than before, even though there are still people who take advantage of this to use pictures of events that happen in other African countries. |
