Until Ekiti State is well developed, Nigeria is not yet developed.

Nothing worth celebrating.

Credit to Julius Berger because of the numerous projects it has delivered in Nigeria but one must also say highlight the other  negative duties of company which includes over invoicing , a dubious front and it other numerous malpractices. Correct me if i am wrong but this Nigeria only company might have cost us more than we have benefited from it.   Every day is for the thief and surely a day for the owner.

Fantastic Video - Nigeria sure has its potential but just imagine how much more we can achieve if the Electricity issue can be fixed. Vision 2020 will happen in less than 2 years.

Please share investment ideas anything apart form share trading - just to risky for me. I am always looking out something with a physical nature.

Ok. . .A lot of cats dont appreciate how difficult it was/is to make Abuja a reality
very few Countries in the world have been able to move their capital cities, and rebuild it inland on virgin land
In Africa only Nigeria has achieved this feat. . another country that has done this is Brazil

Our new capital city have probably achieved most of its Goals. . It is a place of Unity,It has opened up the Huge middle of the country
and ensured that lagos is not suffocated(Imagine how worse congestion would be in Lagos if the president,NASS members and so on all still lived there)

Anyway the Video is all about Abuja. . . Look closely at 1.04 u will see Goodluck Jonathan. . .He was a Governor then though as this video was made in 2006

Am a Finance guy. . .but Frankly i think the biggest opportunity in Nigeria is in the Agric/Agro allied business

For example our population keeps growing, those people have to be fed.  .so chickens,Flour,Dairy, bakery and so on is an opportunity

Then looking at Nigerias location u see that Countries like Saudi Arabia,Algeria,UAE,Egypt, even Israel all import billions of dollars worth of food every yr
They lie in the dessert and cant feed themselves, but they have billions of petro dollars to burn

So Nigeria can tap into that Market . . .of course its capital intensive
but u can form a co-operation with friends and do research for what food product u can easily export

Then there is real estate. . the population keeps growing so we need houses
However the mortgage system has to be improved upon

These are some ideas i have, away from finance AND Stocks

What have we to celebrate?

The 1% of the country has a few decent buildings?

Whilst 99% has decaying infrastructure,
decaying security and rising crime levels.
No electricity
Virtually no national train network
At 50years old a country that does not even have its own national Airline.
Ethnic violence

Are we to celebrate:
the growth in Obj's bank account
The growth in Obj farms
That we
The growth in 419
The billions / trillions of looted money in foriegn bank accounts.

There is nothing to celebrate, any success in Nigeria has happened from indivdual hard work and inspite of our poor government.
Re: My Tribute To Nigeria At 50. . . by EzeUche(m): 2:14pm On Jul 18, 2010
There is nothing worth celebrating right now Paddy lo. You try, but it is nothing to be happy about the deplorable situation.

Nigeria was better before independence then it is now. A few skyscrapers and a megacity where the elite can enjoy the spoils is not worth celebrating.

Sorry to say, but Nigeria is a FAILURE at 50.

LAGOS STATE
Now U cant Talk about Nigeria without mentioning Lagos. . .It generates close to 20% of Nigerias GDP
The New State Governor elected in 2007(Fashola),has managed to transform the state into an eldorado

It is the most sophisticated city in west Africa, and indeed in most of Africa
Lagos dances to its own unique beat. . It is black, and African to the core
Below are glimpses of Lagos, and the transformation happening there. . .

Lekki is the fastest growing borough of lagos. . .Its funny cause in the early 1990s lekki was just mainly swamp and grassland
The 2 videos show why Lekki is today one of the most sought after addresses in Nigeria

The state GOVT has been adding Infrastructure to that axis. . theres the tollgate road expansion
There is the lekki-ikoyi link bridge(Nigerias first suspension cable bridge)
and plans for a coastal express road in the future

AKWA IBOM STATE

This young State in Nigerias Niger Delta region is also growing in leaps and bounds

NIGERIA FOR EVER

Now the video below shows the pictures of Nigeria from a kid who lived here. . Here are his words below
It shows mostly some of our Northern States and ABUJA

"This is a video about my life in nigeria from 2002 - 2006. my parents worked for julius berger in abuja.
some people wrote comments, that i used pictures of the positive sides of nigeria without showing the ones of the negatives sides. please people dont get me wrong! this is just about the part of nigeria me and my friends there experienced. this shows my life there and its dedicated to the people i spent the 4 wonderful years with.
i've seen the negativ aspects of the country but i can still say nigeria is beautiful and the people there are friendly and welcoming. i love africa and really miss this country!"

Nice work paddy_lo,

If Nigerians were more active instead of complaining everyday on Nairaland, the country would have been better. There are many things to celebrate. All we have to do is to be optimistic, and see the positives in Nigeria and of course get up and play a part in improving the country instead of moaning and complaining every time.

There are so many nigerian IT experts and experts in other fields living abroad paid by the corrupt politicians in nigeria to propagate for them on the web and other accessible places they can fool some people.I am sure this poster is one of them.

I think paddy_lo knows fully well that there is a lot wrong with Nigeria, and he probably has some blind spots in his love for Nigeria. For example, Julius Berger and all the other multinationals we rely on to do our work for us are good for the short-term and to show case "finished works". In the long-term, such reliance is one of the fundamental factors that bedevil an economy. Everything can be improved, and certaily extra effort is needed over the next few months to prevent our house of cards in Nigeria from collapsing.

Still I say carry-go jare paddy_lo - your motivation is noble.

One would have expected people that live in developed world where things are considerably in order to go back to nigeria and live an exemplary life,by standing out for the truth and doing the right thing.Hell no,when they go back there and have a taste of free bulky dollars that they have vigorously worked for all their lives, they become worse than the politicians themselves.
