Please my brother, first of all am not a car expert.. I no fit change tire .. But basic thinking, will tell you to follow the car's manual... if they car says 5w30 ,please use 5w30.
I didn't know too much about cars till I started doing uber business... I had a useless manager, that was using road side oil of 5k on my car ...my car had sludge, I had to Google what is sludge ,and the causes of sludge.. I lost a lot of money in the process and I had to sell one of cars due to bad engine ..well after few research, I started importing my own oil from the USA . I started with castrol, to mobil oil 1 and finally I decided that mobil I extended performance is the best oil ..ever since I have never looked back ..

The Nigerian culture is very bad with maintenance.. Your friend that is using wrong oil ..let him continue using ,chances are his car engine will eventually wear out ..And he will start to look for money to fix it .. I won't even advice your friend to use the correct oil now ..it is basically taking medication after death.

But you are lucky, your car is tokunbo.. It is not too late for you. Now , if I was in your shoe ,find a good mechanic. And have them do a throughly check on the car.. And go for an oil change, if you can get a hold of any USA brand synthetic oil . I will recommend Mobil extended performance, I do sell them 5quarts. This is my recommendation , I can only tell you what I use. Keep in mind that USA engine oil is tailored to American cars.. And am sure your car is an American spec Lexus. So in my opinion you will need the following three things . And you can easily find people that sell them on the forum.

1. USA brand full synthetic oil ..Mobil oil is highly recommended

2. Full synthetic oil filter.... With good oil ,you will need oil filter ..too long to go into details on the importance of oil filter

3. Coolant... to prevent major repairs and overheating. Please don't use water . Coolant helps cools down the engine and protects your engine from rust..
And please use good judgement.. Always read your manual and follow their instructions.. Anyone telling you otherwise is a knuckle head .. Nigerians tend to think they know better than the manufacture of the car ..good luck.. Keep in mind the engine of your car is very expensive.. Take good care of it.. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

17k for 5quarts ...And you don't need to use the whole thing.. You should have at least extra liter left... please make sure they don't pour more than what they don't need ...I had one stupid mechanic that just poured the whole oil inside the engine.. You must not over fill your engine with oil ..

Synthetic is a higher grade than conventional (mineral oil). Technically synthetic is better hence the higher cost HOWEVER, it is not necessary if your car does not require it. Some cars require synthetic oil and will have engine problems if you don't use it, others don't.
Conventional oil typically have 3 months/3,000 miles between oil changes while synthetic typically having 6 months/5,000 miles between changes with some going as long as 15,000 miles for extended oil changes.

Lexus es330 and the person I bought it from has been using the same visco.
But I have learned alot from U guys here.
So I want the best for the car.
The car still has sound engine ie I still see little steam coming out from the exhaust pipe, however am beginning to persive smell of smoke but U ll not see the smoke if U check the exhaust.
