The Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) has said that diabetes cases may leap to 642 million by 2040.
It said that people living with diabetes are about 422 million globally.

National President of the association, Dr. Mohammed Alkali, who is also the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, disclosed this yesterday during the opening ceremony of the 2018 world diabetes celebration and second national diabetes workshop organised by
DAN and held at the hospital.

Deadly disease that put much resrictions to what you can and not eat.Imagine after all the hustle,management and endurance during my youthful days.When getting older and richer one doctor will say I shouldn't eat rice, poundy in fact all starchy food then tell me what's remaining to eat apart from wheat bread.

and you have to be moderately rich to afford to have the diseases.if not you may hardly survive due to the food,drugs and injection.

I initially thought it is a disease only for the elderly but now even young people are diagnosed of the disease


it just amazes me that with all the advancement in medicine and the researches carried out in the medical and pharmaceutical industry they still can't find cure to this wicked disease

The inability to convert sugar in a timely manner, low insulin, overweight, genetics etc are predisposing factors to diabetes.

When you exercise it helps burn the sugar your body should be burning naturally in the form of energy.

Exercise can help reduce incidences of diabetes and high BP.

I don't allow my children to take Juice to school, I control what they eat at home. Diabetes is not for them.

Type II Diabetes is an adult problem that manifest in the 40s. More of a lifestyle issue.

For Africans, it is purely genetic because of our diet that centers mostly on INDOMIE AND EGG!

Too much RED MEAT, BOOZE, not enough grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Thsee people just amaze me how they pull figures out of the air ... is it a disease that hit those in high positions? he is predicting number of cases in 2040...based on what? What has DAN done to educate the masses on diabetes prevention and management? He needed to be slugged with two rotten eggs during his speech.
Nondoubt...diabetes will rise faster here....and among younger people mainly due to the excessive amount of sugar intake. Generations before always ate a whole lot of starchy foods...carbohydrates.... why weren't they as diabetic? It has to do with diet. ..as we move away from native natural foods to foreign processed foods ...especially from the US... we will suffer the same fate as they. We should ask ourselves why is diabetes sooo widespread in the US and not Canada nor Europe. A main contributor is high fructose corn syrup....a sweetener used in almost everything .... cereals....sodas....cookies....etc...banned in Canada..banned in Europe....but these are the foods we now proudly consume believing we've raised our status...we're eating foreign = we're eating better/healthier....fooling ourselves and don't even know. DAN needs to come out from hiding.
