DRUG ADDICTION

drug addiction is a situation in which a person has taken or abused a drug for a long period of time of time resulting in a great need for the drug and the person cannot do without the drug. Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to change in the structure and function of the brain. Although it is true that for most people, the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary, over time, changes in the brain caused by repeated drug abuse can affect a person’s self control and ability to make sound decision.

Why people become drug addicts:

Close association with drug dealers who in one way or the other influence people with their money to join them.
Some people take drugs to cope with anxiety fear frustration and loneliness.
Many people take drugs to overcome the offers of overwork.
Some take drugs out of curiosity on experimental basis without knowing the danger ahead.
Other become addicted after an illness which the doctor prescribed a drug to relieve pain.
Lack of suffient education by the government on the evils of drugs abuse.

Mass education on drug abuse, it’s harmful effects on the body.
The use of sleep inducing drugs must stop so that children don’t emulate them.
Thorough check at borders and ports must be carried out to make such illegal drugs prohibited.
