wirinet: Is there church in the same school? Yes, but you don't want mosque to be there yet it's a government school. I can also bet there more more churches, Catholic and Pentecoastal but it's a crime for mosque to bs built on such a ground. You guys are bunch of selfish intolerant mofos. I can say no Christian dominated country is without violence. Just within October to November, three christian terrorists named Ian Long, Robert Bowers and Cesar Sayoc killed people in the USA. I guess it shouldn't be talked about since they are christians 2 Likes |

Demmzy15: A capital YES! The same way wearing mini skirt and torn jeans is banned in many public and private schools despite the freedom of religion, movement and association enshrined in our constitution. An institution should be free to determine its dress code. |

Somebody abuses prophet. The best man ever have in the history of the world. There is no relationship between the prophet and the protests. Did you think this abusing and saying bad words will end up the problems? Muslim are protesting over the right of their children. That's all. Remember, they didn't cursed Jesus and i know they won't do that. Stop abusing HIM my friend. Let the matter to be table down for profer understanding. Why the "HIJAB"? why did Christian fear HIJAB? What did the HIJAB means to you? And why are you fighting over it? Muslim are not disturbing the peace let alone, the Christian but, the only little understanding that peeped within them. Allow them to wear HIJAB and let Christian continue walking in their half naked dress that best suited them. 1 Like |

I beg to differ but No it is Not. I don't see the connection between what one wears on the outward and peace and moral decency as you have put it. I don't even get the protest. ISI is a private school. The school board has every right to enforce the laws it set forth as it deems fit. Were those Muslim parents not aware that these were the rules before they sought to enrol their precious little peaceful hijab wearing children there? Did ISI co-opt anyone of them by force? Really this is exactly why we will never ever progress as a country. We leave the real issues and focus on the non issues. Will a bunch of Christian parents go to enrol their kids in a private school that disallows wearing of rosaries or Christian robes, only for those Parents to start protesting later? Have you heard about it anywhere in this country? No one has said don't wear Hijab, just don't wear it to school? Is that too much to ask? My take on this is that it is an organised ploy by Muslims. But I really don't know what they seek to prove, honestly I don't. Because when we start going down this path be rest assured it will only bring out the worst from all involved. Let sleeping dogs lie. The main purpose of any institution is to gain knowledge not a parade ground for religious values. You have your home or your religious centres for that. OhiOfIhima: |

ollah2: If your argument is for removing all religious buildings from public schools and even public institutions, you will have a point, but arguing for adding more religious edifices to our already tense religious school environment does not make sense.
So because three deranged people carried out mass murders make the USA comparable to Syria, Afganistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Kenya, Northern Nigeria,Egypt and almost all Muslim dominated countries? Did the three Americans that carried out terrorist attack say they did it in the name of Jesus? Did they say it was for religious reasons? All the Muslim terrorists without exception kill in the name of Allah. 2 Likes |

Ccagoke: Does that stop the fact that Hijab is mandatory for the Muslim female folks? Europe and The Americas are the background of Christianity can you judge Christianity based on the current conduct of the Europeans and Americans? Stop the hypocrisy!!!! |
Re: Hijab: University Of Ibadan International School - Muslims Protest by kayjay69(m): 11:33am On Nov 19, 2018 |
Is ISI a govt school? Why are Muslim parents protesting over how a "Private" school chooses to enforce its own laws? What exactly is there to be gained? Equality? Moral Decency? What exactly? Should not the first purpose of every school be to impart knowledge? Are schools now the battleground for religion? I honestly don't understand this two facedness from you folks. And I guess I never will because it smells of mischief. And this is exactly why Nigeria won't realise it's full potential because we as a country, or atleast the majority of us, can't seem to call a spade exactly what it is. ollah2: 1 Like |

Demmzy15: Senseless and irrelevant argument. The argument here is the right of Muslims to wear religious clothing in a secular school contrary to the laid down school uniform. We are not talking about a total Hijab or Burka ban. i am saying there are schools that allows Hijab or Burka as part of their school uniform, and any parents that feels Hijab is the most important thing to his or child's education should enroll the child there. 2 Likes |

Ilorin is not a tolerant city sorry. U can barely buy land in some areas there unless you are a Muslim. However Ibadan will not be the HQ of religious extremism, it will be places like Iwo and Ede. And it is already taking shape anyway. omoelerin1: 1 Like |

Demmzy15: Muslims are permitted to wear Hijab in schools if the school authorities permit it , as there are no laws banning the use of Hijab in the UK. But the government will not tolerate a protest by few Muslim students because the school authorities ban the use of Hijab. I do not know of which Military or paramilitary institutions that permit the wearing of Hijab in the UK, so educate me. |
Re: Hijab: University Of Ibadan International School - Muslims Protest by Demmzy15(m): 11:42am On Nov 19, 2018 |
wirinet:It's not irrelevant, you're the one who's speaking against hijab because some bastard elements use it for evil. I then gave example of how this same elements use western clothing to commit this same evil and you're now whining. Being secular doesn't mean you shouldn't allow people to practice their religion and hijab has nothing to do with you, so stop opening eye for what doesn't concern you. There are public schools all over the west that allow hijab, the US and some other countries allow Niqab for Muslims. Sikhs are allowed to wear their turbans and hold daggers for self defense in secular nations, why can't Nigerians tolerate one another? 1 Like |

wirinet: In those same secular schools while growing up we were nurtured with Christian beliefs like the Lord's prayer, the grace and a host of others now wearing of Hijab should be confined to Islamic schools but that recommendation wasn't given when the Christians were stylishly forcing their belief on us under the guise of education. I now your fear you have been feasting on the ignorance of the Muslim kids as regards their religion all along in the south and you are afraid that measures like wearing Hijab will bring consciousness to these Kids. Please take heart. 1 Like |

The school is a Secular School. It is owned by UI which is owned by the FG. So, it belongs to all Nigerians. Muslims and Christians have stake in the school. ISI is not a Christian school. islandmoon: |
