From the transcript, you will be able to deduce whether the lecturer was beaten or not, and also whether the students planned to extort him, so as to debunk any false claims. 1. From the conversations that transpired throughout the video transcript, it could be summarized that the lecturer was quite vocal, but the lecturer never mentioned or made any complaint of being beaten or physically hurt by the students. 2. I should mention at this point that the whole event that occurred wasn’t even a planned one; (a) obviously the planning by the students stopped at the level of catching the lecturer with his pants down and taking pictures, which obviously did not go down without some struggling apparently with Judith before the camera got in The video starts with an approach to a room with a burglary proof gate and a wooden door slightly open behind it. The gate appears locked and Engineer /Professor P. O. Otubu sat on a plastic chair panting after what appears to be a fight between him and student "Judith" (b) if you go through the transcript again, you would notice the point at which some of the students were suggesting he should go (this is the point at which the planned mission was to end), Male voice: Judith, Judith, Juddith . . . Lecturer: I will wear it on top of it Judith wanted more humiliation for him by taking pictures with him, while some of the students followed up his offer to sign a cheque (probably he wanted to bribe them not to release the video and pictures) 3. The lecturer actually sensed that the students did not make any grievous plans to hurt him and he started regaining some confidence; when one student said ‘your father’, the lecturer even smiled and asked him ‘are you insulting me?’ If he was beaten earlier, he would not have the audacity to confront the student due to a mere insult. To further prove the absence of any brutal attribute to the student and that this whole drama was transpiring out of mere frustration (which most Nigerian students experience), the student’s answer to the lecturer’s confrontation was ‘do you know what lecturers have done to me in this school?’(a rather weak response from a shaken student). I tell you if this was a planned event and the students had beaten the lecturer earlier and the lecturer had the audacity to confront the student following a mere insult, the least the lecturer would have received would be a dirty slap. 4. That lecturer in question , from his actions even in that situation shows how wicked he could be, and probably had no plans of passing that girl (thereby, further destroying her life – it could be anyone’s daughter/sister/someone’s future mother). Even in such cruel humiliation, he was still trying to device dubious means of manipulating the students. Those students never had any plans to collect any cheque from him. Let me tell you when he made the offer – When he whispered to Judith (Inaudible in the report) and Judith answered audibly ‘I don’t know them o!’ then he called one of the males ‘my friend’ while making gestures. Look at this carefully: Judith: (apparently in answer to lecturer’s quiet question) I don’t know them o . . .(lecturer gives a frowning Judith the cheque, smiling and petting her) (a) The students wouldn’t have ever known he would carry a cheque book to Judith’s place. (b) Their responses seemed rather ‘surprised’ at an offer (‘wetin e wan sign?’), (which bank?), (oya sign am), (100,000?). They never demanded anything or amount of money. (c) Note from the report they were asking for his valuables to gather so that none would get missing. If they wanted to extort him, they would have seized them and shared among themselves instead of hoping on a cheque which probably would never had been cashed. (d) Do you even think that if they really planned to extort him, they would have recorded the act or released that recorded part to fellow students on Campus? Lecturer: This is pass…Its cheque book Too much evidence against this dude. Anyone who wants to accuse these students of extortion or physical assault in the courtroom would be exposing pure ignorance and would have to have his/her law practicing licence reviewed. Some people could be thinking ‘it could happen to their father’, and so have sympathy for the man. But again, the man is supposed to actually be a father-figure to children such as Judith and other female students who he takes advantage of in exchange for passing them. He is an adult and a ‘teacher’ and is supposed to know the devastating effect his wicked schemes would have on the lives and future of these students, and is supposed to be ready to take responsibility for his actions, no matter how cowardly he may be. This is what most Nigerians do not possess (even the so-called leaders), and sadly, many Nigerians have been so oppressed that they do not even know when they start supporting such destructive attitudes or at least take it as being normal. Such actions as Judith’s should be promoted so as to bring some sanity into our society, because it has come to this level. Almost everyone behaves like a wild animal most especially those who are supposed to be role models. And this is just one of the basic requirements we need as a people before we can even start talking about moving forward together as a nation. The likes of Mr. Otubu within the society have to be sanitized before those in the leadership of the country can. [quote][/quote] |

we always fail to investigate issues properly before concluding. though i don't in anyway support sexual harassment, whether on a girl or on a guy, we must study this case carefully before we conclude erroneously. as a student of the said Ambrose Alli University popularly known as Ekpoma and also a 500 level law student of the said institution and also as deliberated at the school's ASUU meeting today, i will boldly and without favour or special sentiment support the lecturer. first, the lecturer accepts a friendship/relationship with the girl. in fact, he has been seen hanging out at pepper soup joints with the said girl. he was only at the girl's house that day on the distress calls (sms) of the girl that she wasn't fine and needed medical attention. and that the said lecturer should come with some apple fruits. being a friend, the lecturer obliged. only to meet the saga which everyone knows about. some lecturers who where present at the scene of the humiliation of the lecturer claimed that there were some hefty-huge-ugly-looking-terrible guys present at the scene threatening any abortion of the humiliation. from the video, which i have watched. and also the claimed season 1 of the said video as it is the season 2 that is common to the public, we could hear the sister of the said Judith complaining that the sister was going too far and that this was not what they initially planned. everything must have been under duress. with the common incidence of kidnapping/false imprisonment, a lecturer could easily be a victim. besides, why is it that the video is only showing the lecturer and Judith and not the other persons viewing. how are you not sure that one of the viewer was with a deadly - life - threatening weapon. besides, any person under duress could pretend/act just to save his life. he could sign a cheque and say things he knows nothing about. just as many guys do after a good torture from the police. i would also like to know if there is anything wrong with a man of adult age to have a romantic relationship with a girl who is more than 16years. if he failed her in the past even after sleeping with her, it shows that he doesn't in anyway, for any reason or favourism pass students. you must show yourself approved. the said girl has about six other carry-overs as i hear which imputes in her a poor student. some other lecturers have been dismissed because of sexually related offense. these complainants channeled their complain appropriately and even the V.C. at a time plus some other lecturers had to set up a lecturer. other cases of this nature are still pending as the senate is following the cases with our necessary care. the video also shows the girl to be making more controls (calls) to other persons to come. this shows that the lecturer must have been kept there under duress - against his natural will. tell bro, what will make you pull your trousers when you are not a porn star? - only a gun or some other deadly weapon. what will make you sign a cheque of N100,000 when you have not yet been paid for two months? - only some kind of death threat. these are what my lecturer suffered. as we read, some lecturers are being investigated by the police regarding the issue. because i see no reason why a young lady (unless insanity) destroy her public image in such a manner. not my friend's friend can date such a babe!! no!!! i just can agree to work with such a colleague or employ such a staff that could embarrass my customers or other staff. many more will come. just follow. |

An innocent man would not suffer from such extortion. There is nothing to hide - if he was meant to be there - such video would not have been made. Woke4all - are you mentally ok? Is your sense of reasoning alright? If you were in the man's shoes and had done nothing wrong - would you have been obtained like that? Do you want me to break down the chain of thought that led to that statement for your elementary brain? Warped reasoning. It is this kind of reasoning that makes the police arrest a whole street because a mere case of burglary has been reported. Grin please go back and read this thread from the first post, watch the video and then come back and tell us whether you would not sign the cheque if you were in his situation with all the threats of physical and psychological assault been thrown at him left, right and centre Watched from day 1 and followed it. But then am the kind of person that was cricket captain of my school and got stoned by my school mates because I refused to cheat. An innocent man with integrity would not be in that mess. The teacher has only himself to blame! I wouldnt be in that situation in the first place!! However if people wanted to intimidate me into signing such when I hadnt done anything wrong - it no go happen. |

Okay, this has gone far enough, over 12,000 views on Daily Motion and 2,000+ "likes" on Facebook and over 14 top results on Google from several popular blogs and news sites, this issue has gained enough mileage to deliver two important messages to Higher Institutions of Learning 1: Nigerian Education System must begin to take steps to cull Sexual Harassment of Students (Male/Female) in a thorough and professional manner 2: Victims of Sexual Harassment need a much durable and objective platform for airing their grievances without causing unnecessary collateral damage. Due to this video, Prof. Otubu's Wife and Daughter are in a state of severe emotional trauma, his friends and neighbors are faced with the uncomfortable choice of facing him every morning with the memory of what he was involved with. The University also has a strong negative perception from prospective females who wish to study there. There will always be this air of discomfort especially for the more technical courses like Engineering. It is an open secret that Sexual harassment exists in our institutions but this Video has shown in a more personal manner, an insight to what truly goes on. The victim (Judith) is also facing one of the most traumatic moments of her life. 400 level Engineering student on the verge of getting suspended or worse, having other lecturers on Otubu's side fail her on other courses. This is one of the worst feelings any student will face at the turn of her Academic studies. The Edo state Governor must prepare adequate conditions that allow the investigations to carry on without further damage to both parties. |

I am disgusted with some posts on this issue. We are advocating mercy and ignorance for a lecturer who has destroyed the lives of many females with his sex for grades. We want to disqualify his case because he was blackmailed. I cant stand it - i am not perfect and i have done evil. He who enjoys the crime shud be fully prepared to give up his time. I congratulate the lady and fully encourage people who are under the bondage of teachers to speak out. |

@reactor, I do not get what you are implying. but it seems to me that your grouse is simply the manner the man was caught and disgraced  What you are saying is that the Lecturer should not have taken the law into his own hands by threatening and actually failing the girl even after she had sex with him  . @reactor - it doesnt take a supreme specie to read this case well. however it takes someone who is comfortable with corruption to post what you posted. do you stay in nigeria? why do you think most people stay away from Nigerian police? The judicial system in Nigeria has failed. The system of justice in the uni has failed!! Who will stay to be questioned in Nigerian society in such a case? I have just seen the video on my facebook page. Yes, there is probably a case against the girl and other people for extortion, BUT, if you decide to fight with Ashawo or Madman for market who go carry the shame? The lecturer is a disgrace to himself, his family and the whole Nigerian university system. If he passed student purely on merit, if he respected himself not to fraternise with students he would never have been in this mess. I am no saint; but I will not demean myself by going out with my staff or my daughter's mates. The girl in question may suffer a set back for a few years, but she will move on, the lecturer on the other hand has so much more to lose. And this is the kind of fool that will one day want contest election, showing his private part in public to boys with a camera, what kind of duress?? the man is a fool, . |
