Unless something revolutionary and radical happens, this country's future is bleak.

Imagine creating more higher institutions when the ones in place are poorly mismanaged and inadequately funded.

Education is expensive and needs adequate funding to make it affordable for the common man but the avaricious cabal is just interested in embezzlement.

When will all this end?

Edo is indeed the cradle of Black Civilization. Great Empire. Spent more than half of my life in Benin, had no clue till I got to London.

The whole land on earth belongs to the Oba of Benin. Know your history.

my school is not National Diploma awarding institution. it's a college of education with NCE programme
I don't know about the programs but Oyo has that institution and also have a Federal University,a Federal College of Agriculture and a Federal college of Forestry....many states are not opportune to...Abia state for example has only one Federal Institution,a University....no federal poly or college of education or anything.....

Nonetheless, adding more institutions to our bloated system is very very bad....and unproductive....The Ministry of Education has one of the highest number of parastatals if not the highest so adding these ones again....will be cumbersome for the already 'low-budgetted' Ministry.

The Senate yesterday passed bills for the establishment of five polytechnics, two universities, two colleges of education and one institute of technology.

The institutions are Federal Polytechnic, Kabo, Kano State; ‎Federal Polytechnic, Daura, Katsina State; Federal Polytechnic, Ikom, Cross River State; Federal Polytechnic, Langtang, Plateau State and Federal Polytechnic, Kwale, Delta State.

Others are Federal University of Education, Aguleri, Anambra State; Federal University of Technology, Manchok, Kaduna State; Federal College of Education, Usugbenu Irrua, Edo State; Federal College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Abia State and National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi, Edo State.

The 10 proposed federal institutions are part of the over 80 that the National Assembly is currently working to establish.

Daily Trust had last Friday reported that the bills for the 80 new federal tertiary institutions ‎are at various stages of legislative processes.‎

Our correspondent reports that apart from the 80 bills, one other bill came up for first reading on Tuesday.

I tire o. Isn't it better to have a few world class institutions than glorified secondary schools? Honestly, they need to create an accreditation body for this schools so as to weed out and prevent all this mushroom institutions from springing up. It's truly becoming something else.

Trashy assembly. undecided undecided undecided undecided

Are they aware that the existing higher institutions are underfunded, ill-equipped, starved, neglected and poorly supported by the same government ?

Are they aware ASUU is on strike as we speak ?

The fact that most of them only managed to use school cert. to contest and their kids are studying abroad doesn't mean that they should shut their eyes at the plight of Nigerian undergraduates and academics.

This is madness.

Where are all the graduates of these places going to be employed?

ASUU is currently on strike because the government has not honoured significant portions of the 2009 agreement. Nearly 10 years on, a govt is having problems coming up with money to fund the existing ones, yet it plans to add EIGHTY more. More staff, more infrastructure to build and maintain and more graduates who will be unemployed.
Well said.
Creating more problems-d present iissue is small. (More salaries to pay, ..... Etc).
No plan to accommodate dd graduants, no foresight,
