About 182 graduates will receive First Class degrees at the 43rd convocation of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, out of 13,492 graduating students.

The chairman of the ceremonial committee, Oluseye Bolaji, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.

Mr Bolaji, a professor, said that the convocation would involve graduates of the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic sessions.

He added that the event would hold between December 11 and 14.

Mr Bolaji added that the convocation lecture entitled, “University Education in Nigeria: Revisiting the Ife Dream,” would be delivered by a retired professor of History and Second Republic senator, Banji Akintoye.

The committee chairman also said exhibition of research activities carried out in the faculties and units of the university would be unveiled as part of the activities during the convocation. (NAN).

Nigerians are now cool with the nonsense that is strife in Nigerian universities to the extent that a slight change in this very trend will be greeted with elephantine opprobrium. We are now proud of evil ba? To the best of my knowledge First Class is not that hard as we tend to portray it. I strongly believe that if Nigerian students are not impishy robbed of their merited marks, a university producing 500 First Class graduates won't be a rocket science. We should be celebrating universities that have begun to be in Amity with meritocracy instead of lauching castigation on them.

Peace

lol. The way this nation dey share 1st class out eh, you go think say e legit.

Last I remember, nigerian graduates have not improved the nation since before i was born.

It is not their faults, but it is a fact that 90 or 95% of nigeria's degrees are sorting degrees, even the cultist sort and/or bully the lecturers.

It is already too bad that the educational system is not up to standard eg not conducive with desk, light, lecturers getting their salaries, etc

We have a long way to go and we are still lamenting. Time dun reach when dem go dey hide these worthless papers when dem dey dish am.

Abeg park well. For all I care, inside that 182, 90% dun sort their way to final year.

Am not under rating a determined nigerian wey carry book for head; my thing be say even since 1970, i neva see anything wey these graduates including me dun do for nigeria. If na to put title before name, nobody do am pass us; but our educational system, especially university level, no get level at all when compared to serious places.

It can even be argued that, most university graduates in nigeria universities, added a few real academic knowledge by the time dey were graduates, na secondary school knowledge reserve and street knowledge, na im university students dey use finese until dem graduate. Worthless paper wey many goats go reject, na im we dey use form anyhow. Rubbish.

Make we face our problems instead of excuses and cover ups.

I graduated with a 1st class cultist degree. Which time dey to read when life dey line.

I went back to school sha after i dun get sense, thank God say e no tey when i see the light.

As for 1st class degree in nigeria, abeg no make me laff.

Go to the new power plant in taraba and see who built it, go to any serious building, facilities, oil and gas, infrastructure, and complex thing of small importance, and see who built and leads it. 1st class since 1960, yet dem neva build anything tangible with their paper warrior and glorified degrees.

For your info sha, i use to have that worthless paper until i saw it will be better used in lighting fire wood during one of stay in a village of my friend.
