a mid range phone like xiaomi's pocophone f1 will beat 80% of so called flagships and its less than 110k on jumia. So op is very correct

Flag ship or nothing else. A 2year old flagship still rocks more than most latest transion devices....not in the iphone vs samsung battle though. I rep the pixels and the Lg's Gs n Vs...ThinQ

Huncle, stop lying
Nobody still uses BlackBerry 7 series
The worst you will see is BlackBerry 10, which Whatsapp runs on
Besides, BlackBerry phones are now fully Android-enabled
Lol, I still use a blackberry Bold 5 which I wanna change soon. I don't really care about whatsapp, cause I'm not the chatty type

I think TECNO Mobile is doing great at the mid range phones tho. I just got the CAMON 11 Pro, and it's shocking how amazing the specs are for a phone below 80k.

This is poverty speaking
no. It is called a choice. So everyone that's using a midrange phone is poor? Where do u people get your thoughts from? I have a boss who is super rich but uses a Camon CM as his main phone. Just started using an iPhone because it was given to him for his birthday.

Beautiful piece... Brands like Tecno are trying very much to make high tech available to the teeming masses at a cheap price... Haters would soon come here now as talk bs

Will go for convenience and cheap...n I love changing device as well...at least once every year .

felasey1:

What makes the mid-range smartphones be more desirable than the latest flagship devices these days?

I can say we all love the flagship phones, from the premium finishes and good looks to the high-end specs.

Apart from the extreme pricing that’s limits the number of people that can actually afford the phones, it seems that even people who can afford the flagship devices end up buying the mid-range devices especially in this recent years.

So what makes the mid-range devices so special that one would choose it over a premium flagship device for daily use?

I have a rough idea on why that would be the case..

Convenience.
As we’ve seen in the recent releases of mid-range phones, the one thing that they excel in better than the flagship phones is the battery life. For example the Infinix note 5 will give you up-to 3 days battery life compared to any flagship phone which can barely handle a full day of regular usage. Now I know I don't want to have to carry a power bank around with me whenever I'm out travelling or I when I know I wont be near any power source for a while, so the first thing I would want to have is a phone with good battery life.

Cheap
The price of the device is pretty much the most obvious factor, but I’m not only talking about the cost of buying the phone, but also the cost of repairing it. If you dropped the Pixel 2 for example and broke the screen, we all know how much it would cost to replace the screen. For most of the mid-range devices however, it's different case, first of all it might not even brake since most mid-range devices go for the plastic finish rather than glass which is more fragile, but they still manage to make it look and feel premium even with the plastic finish it would hard to notice the difference in my opinion.

Apart from that the overall performance of a mid-range smartphone would very much suffice for your daily usage, the camera has improved, and many mid-range phones have dual cameras too, packing at least 3gb or 4gb ram which isn’t so bad unless you’re a heavy user or plan to have the device for gaming but it isn’t that bad either.

The phones barely have any lag except for when playing heavy games but they still fare well, although the flagships would still be a better option for gaming or photography.

What do you think, would you go for a flagship or a mid-range smartphone? I Know I would choose both.

Which phone are you using that you are making noise... Most of all these noisemakers can't afford the brand they want to kill themselves for.
Bottom line, you can still save your face and get the Camon 11

Its not about making noise but I just can't use transion device...Its a no no for me

You can find that good battery life in some Tecno phones like the Pouvoir 2, and Pouvoir 2 pro. Spark 2 as well.

I think they operate on different markets. I'm sure an iPhone or Samsung user would not agree with you in any way.
Its not a debate to be agreed or disagreed upon. what we should concern ourselves with is the validity of the opinin expressed here, which i think is valid.

This thread is an interesting one. Mid range phones have always been about affordability and making good phones readily available. The likes of Tecno , Infinix etc. And it is also all about choices. Why break the bank on a flagship when a mid range phone will give me what I want ? I think that's why these mid range devices are becoming more favoured

When it comes to mid range devices affordability is the key. I'm thinking of getting the Camon 11 Pro because it's affordable compare to other brands of the same specs.

They are all going obsolete.

Obsolete I don't think brands like TECNO , Infinix and Xiaomi are still making amazing mid range devices.
