How can you rate information technology in your country?
How do you rate the governments role in information technology?

In Nigeria, information technology is still at a low ebb. It is shocking that we are yet to exploit the full technologies available is simple desktop computing and networking.

One glaring problem is in the IT culture that is developing. Much of Nigerian information technology is all about re-inventing the wheel. The pase at which information technology is growing in the foreign world will keep setting Nigeria behind. Certainly, catching up with the rest of the world is a fluke.

We should start asking ourselves, what can we use already-made softwares or off-the-shelf softwares to do? We should start exploiting freewares and open-source software in or work organizations. We should exploit these to speed up business development in Nigeria. In other words, we should exploit end user information technology and perfect it.

If we do not do this, we will remain in the catch-me-if-you-can game that the technologies of the west is putting before us.
