Between yesterday and today I’ve seen more than 10 job vacancies on the front page alone.

But all people care about to shout is that there’s no job.

It is because the technical areas are lacking in that firm. With the increase in the supply for engineering firms the demand for technical experts will increase.

That is not true. If an organization has strong internal control mechanism put in place it will be difficult to siphon money from companies. When companies suspect any form of foul play, a reasonable manager hires a forensic accountant to detect fraud unfortunately we have less forensic accountant in Nigeria. We so much rely on external auditors whose job is to detect irregularities in financial statement and report to management.

One thing is to see job advert the other is to call for test and interview. There less white collar jobs in country. These companies advertised always as for skills aside the grade of applicants. Having a good grade is just a step but other factors are considered. Aside this high number persons apply for job slot limited to certain numbers. Another is people leaving their former jobs to join the huddle. Many persons experienced in that area will be considered after scaling through written test and interview. You dont expect companies to employ someone not experience with skills to another with the required skills.

Accountants and Administrators are the ones that brought this country to our current sorry state. We need technical professionals to move the country forward in science and technology.

So in short what you’re saying is that it’s not the lack of job but the fact that people are either not qualified, inexperienced or outrightly unemployable.

Then why blame the government for job losses. Imagine this one too will blame it on PMB.

Aside the mentioned factors you gave, there had been job losses as a result of downsizing by many companies . Many companies had closed their businesses in Nigeria and relocated to neighboring countries because of the epileptic power supply facing Nigeria. Utterances from PMB alone has sent bad signal to foreigners that had wanted to invest in the country.

Most of the companies that closed shops were companies that had no business opening offices in the first place.

If they had any business opening office initially and they left the country because of PMB then what is attracting these new ones that are recruiting in hundreds on a daily basis? or does it mean what chased them away had left the country.

The truth is that most of those companies you mentioned were feeding off proceeds of corruption. An example is the $37million dollars uncompleted hotel abandoned in banana island. That’s about N12billion Naira which would easily climb up to $100million (36billion Naira) when completed. Do you know how many people has lost their jobs directly or indirectly due to the abandoning of the project? Those are the kind of companies that packed up. They were not contributing to the economy they were instead hurting the economy. These are real companies that are here to stay.
