Sensing an embarrassing re-election loss, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has perfected a final propaganda onslaught in a bid to humiliate and dent Senator Godswill Akpabio's image ahead of the APC Presidential Campaign flag-off by President Muhummadu Buhari in Akwa Ibom State.

A member of the crack-team who is sympathetic to the Senator disclosed on anonymity that the plan was hatched at the instance of the governor after the recent invasion of State House of Assembly with armed thugs and botched attempt by his wife to stop First Lady, Aisha Buhari from visiting the state last weekend.

“You are aware of the numerous failed plots by the Governor to frame up and humiliate Senator Godswill Akpabio having realised that Akwa Ibom people have rejected his second term bid unequivocally. The Governor has now released N5million to renowned newspapers to trump spurious allegations, publish damaging stories to malign the image of the Senator and his administration which is widely considered the best since the creation of the state. I cannot be part of such plans", the source added.

This medium can also authoritatively report that as part of the plan, the Governor has assembled and bankrolled a team of Lagos-based lawyers and professional associates to flood the media with unfounded petitions to facilitate the character defamation of the Senator.

“The Governor has fully commenced a major onslaught since the PDP in Akwa Ibom State is finally stuck with a very unpopular and rejected Gubernatorial candidate, who can no longer command the support of Akwa Ibom people coupled with his increasing woes since the defection of Senator Akpabio. Udom as a last resort is playing dirty, his foot soldiers advised him not to go down like that without a fight", another source disclosed.

Further investigations by Akwa Ibom INFO shows that the latest attempt is another regurgitation of 'old tales'. The EFCC has investigated various petitions against the Senator and found nothing incriminating against him.

Recall that Barrister Leo Ekpenyong, whose law firm petitioned the Senator to EFCC, voluntarily withdrew the spurious petitions upon discovery that they were fuelled by disgruntled politicians and ethnic jingoists in Akwa Ibom State. "So as it is, Senator Akpabio after thorough investigations, does not have any case with the EFCC,” he said.

"Governor Udom is aware of the political reality that Akwa Ibom State has turned APC with the defection of Senator Akpabio. The dynamics of the Governor's re-election has changed from a good chance to a very, very difficult chance with the resolve of Akwa Ibom people to vote him out. Akwa Ibom people will vote en-masse for President Buhari, Senator Akpabio, Obong Nsima Ekere and all candidates of APC in the forthcoming general elections".
