News filtered in that there is an ongoing mass retrenchment exercise being carried out by the newly hired HR management of Oando downstream spearheaded by Ms. Onabanjo Olukemi and CEO Mr Huub Stokesman.

It will be recalled that February earlier this year the new CEO was introduced by the new owners of the company.

The retrenchment exercise cuts across all levels of staffs from the executive management, managers, senior staffs and contract staffs. The news had it that over 200 staffs is expected to be laid off from the over 600 workforce in the company.

It is not clear yet what PENGASSAN position is on this matter as at the time of going to the press but it is believed that the HR management is carrying out the exercise in a tyrannical manner as many of the management staffs had their personal computers retrieved from them while they were working with no prior information or notification as never seen before in the Oil and gas industry.

It is also noted that Ms Olukemi was the same HR personnel who was engaged to mastermind the mass sack of over 1250 staffs during the acquisition of Oceanic bank by Ecobank in February 2012, according to media reports in Nigeria.
