Oil companies operating in the Niger Delta have released $180 million as part of counterpart funding for the Ogoni clean up project.

Outgoing Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibril, disclosed this yesterday at the handover ceremony to Suleiman Zarma in Abuja.

Jibril also said that his successor would receive $17 million, while $5 million was in the ministry’s domiciliary account.

According to him, the ministry is richer with N200 million in its accounts. He urged the incoming minister to work towards Ogoni
clean up.

Jibril resigned his appointment as minister recently when he was appointed an emir in Nasarawa State.

He thanked the management and staff of the ministry for their cooperation, and urged them to extend the same to the new minister.

Zarma promised to continue with the laudable projects embarked upon by his predecessor.

He assured the workers that their welfare would be given priority. He said more projects would come up next year.
