Tomato and guava are not indigenous plants. So don't expect indigenous names for them.

Some non-indigenous crops do have local names tho like maize- oka or agbado. They were probably introduced a long long time ago when language was still developing, which may explain why they managed to have local names.

Tomati is OK for a local name. Tomato is not of English origin. It comes from the native language where tomato was first cultivated in South America. The original name is "tomatl".

The Spanish borrowed the word , followed by other European countries and the rest of the world.

So if the Yoruba call it "tomati", it's a perfect name.
