Over the years members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have always received a monthly allowance of N19,800 during the course of their service year. Some have complained it is too small for a graduate but the government is yet to do something about it.

A young man identified as Abu Bakr Bilyamin (@Serddieq) has just taken to his Twitter handle to reveal how NYSC sent him extra N179,000 while transferring his monthly allowance.

The young man was to receive N19,800 but received N198,800 instead. He shared a screenshot of transaction on Twitter with the caption: “ Dear @nysc_ng, I am a Corps Member serving in Borno State, 18BII. Today, 22/12/2018, I was credited with N198,800 as allowance instead of N19,800. ”

The tweet received mixed reactions from Twitter users before it was deleted. Some blamed him for sharing the tweet which others lauded his courage for pointing out the mistake to the government.

That's just it. My friends suffered the last one that happened at the end of last year/ beginning of the year.

Don’t know why many people these days rush to social media to talk about their personal lives. I don’t get it. Maybe I’m cut from a different cloth, but the young man could have asked his fellow Corp members if they received the same amount to know if it’s was an error or the actual amount allocated to Borno Corp members.

He can then take further steps by meeting his Zonal officer to escalate issues for remediation. I don’t understand why he has to rush to Twitter. This trend is getting out of hand. If it’s a new way to get famous or attention, then it’s sickening.

Some of you condemning him for the good move lack discretion. If those @ the top that promised positive change have woefully failed us, the change can be effected by the citizens/followers to put the lying leaders to shame! That was a laudable effort by the corps member, I applaud you. I once found a bunch of crispy 1000 naira notes on a parking lot. And I simply went into the reception of the office building & told the elderly man that I saw there about what I saw. He came out, saw the money & picked it up. He exclaimed that it was the money given to the office owner by a Naval Officer to help buy cement for him. Long story short, the person later located me & vehemently thanked me. He told me it was the sum of 40,000 naira & that what would he have told the Naval man if the money was found by the wrong person? He gave me 1k in appreciation for recharge card. Funny enough the corps member serving there, simply told me he couldn't have been that fair if he found the money, that he would have commandeered it. What a shame!
