I'll pick Phil Collins and Diana Ross as the best blues singers I have ever come across! |

Re: Who Is The Father Of Blues? by nferyn(m): 7:44am On Jan 10, 2006 |
spikelord:Phil Collins is a much blues as Polish Polka. Diana Ross is an R&B singer, I haven't heard her perform the blues casper:This is edgy. He mixed elements of R&B, blues, gospel and country music. Not a pure blues artist, although he definately could perform the blues magnificently hot-angel:Marvin Gaye is more sould and R&B. He was an absolutely a fantastic performer, but not a blues artist per se. If you want to discover the blues, go and look for people like Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, BB King |

Re: Who Is The Father Of Blues? by raregroove(m): 3:38pm On Jan 11, 2006 |
spikelord: That's an unforgiveable error! Pardon me for being so blunt, none of those artistes remotely sing the blues... The father of blues is a contentious one, there are too many artistes worthy of consideration - Blind Lime Jefferson, Elmore James, Howlin Wolf, Big boy crudup, Koko Taylor, Sonny Boy Williamson, Ma Rainey + the artistes nferyn mentions - however some purists do not highly consider BB King as a true blues artiste albeit his popularity. W.C Handy is widely considered as the father of blues. I think it is a great idea for you to be able to discern the sound of the blues, before you begin to ask the question of who is the father/mother of blues... Hope this helps? |

Re: Who Is The Father Of Blues? by blkamrcngl(f): 10:54pm On Feb 26, 2006 |
the father of blues is barry white. his songs cemented so many relationshipsHe wasn't really blues. Phil Collins SURE isn't anywhere near blues, JOE and R. Kelly are Hip Hop/R&B artists, despite it being called "R&B" it's not really what it implies. Nowadays, real blues artists don't get recognized as much anymore. What people are hearing now being passed off as "blues" is a lot of watered down mimicking. |
