Op, so lining up at the funeral of a former president is what makes 'a great statesman' in your world? Make Buhari sef die now, make we see whether Obasanjo nor go line up for him funeral service.

For your information, Op, all living former US Presidents have at one time or the other since his election, come out publicly to voice their opposition to the direction Trump is taking America. And trust me, if the US under Trump ever experiences anything like the level of insecurity Nigeria has witnessed under Buhari, these former Presidents will do more than speak out. You think Americans will tolerate the killing of over 100 American soldiers by Boko Haram as in the recent Metele battalion attack and not condemn their President? Or the genocidal herdsman killing of defenceless women and children witnessed in Benue and other parts of the Middle Belt under this Presidency? Let us not even talk about Buhari's nepotism, bigotry, clannishness, and all round incompetence.

Kudos to Obasanjo for speaking up. Yorubas say 'agba kii wa l'oja, ko ri omo titun wo'. Obasanjo is doing exactly what an elder should do, not 'siddon look'.

I was so delighted to see former United States Presidents, Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush Jnr, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama line up at the funeral service of former President George H. W. Bush Snr.

The lesson here is, all these leaders and several other former Western leaders alive, never participate in their country’s politics after leaving office. They remain great statesmen and only comment on global issues affecting humanity generally.

I want to see Obasanjo do the same to show that he is indeed a statesman.

Obama several times got involved in politics and made comments criticising trump. He continues to be active in the democratic party campaigns

It is a crime agaist humanity to keep quiet and be neutral in the face of the current state of offairs under Buhari.

If not for Obasanjo, Buhari's dictatorship, and inactivity in the face of massacres by the herdsmen would have gotten to every community in the country.

Thank God someone is reasonable, I was beginning to wonder at the line of thoughts of earlier comments.

Nigerians are funny set of people, they only want to imitate US when its convenient. Nigeria will not copy US when it comes to state policing, resource control, adherence to rule of law, fiscal federalism, structured system etc - they will say we are not matured for that yet.

It is unstateman-like and devlish to see things going wrong and not talk no matter who you are.

While it's true the US has a tradition of former presidents not involving themselves actively in politics, it's more a personal choice.

Obama actively campaigned for Democrats this past election.

In any case, OBJ needs to stop playing god by insisting to influence who becomes president every election. He seems hell-bent to get his botched 3rd term by proxy.

The old generals TY, OBJ, IBB, and Abdulsalam need to stop meddling.

They didn’t participate because their democracy was quite mature, independent and not under threat. Our democracy is young and needs wise people to navigate it so it doesn’t go to the dogs.

We are in a very different time, position and situation from America. Even when trump was coming out as republicans party presidential candidate and seen as a threat America’s values sm of these states men spoke with caution.

When OBJ's oil Wells he put in care of somebody renewal licence is under threat.
How do you expect him to be on the sideline?
All former Generals without oil Wells are on the sidelines proffering suggestion to current leaders, but all the goons with oil Wells like IBB, TY Danjuma, OBJ etc are all active in politics just because of their vested interests

Being a statesman doesn't mean he can't have a preferred candidate. I'm not a politician but I know the difference between someone who will make Nigeria work again and someone who only knows how to bring suffering.

You must be an idiot to trust someone who caused your problems.
