I don taya. Two months into this job and I am already looking for a greener pasture. I was happy when the offer I received from the firm tripled my previous salary but it's a different story entirely since I started receiving bank alerts.

First, they pay salary 5th of the next month which we complained about but the HR (a Chinese) said that's how it is even in their headquarters in China. The first salary I received, dude claimed it was because I resumed Nov 12 and not the first day of the month. I chilled and let it pass.

I wasn't even expecting my salary again at all this year and around 4am when I woke up to pee, I checked my phone only to see an alert from my bank. It was from my workplace. About 40% deductions was made again. I am just waiting for day to break so I can grill the HR but then I am sure he'd look for ways to justify the deductions.

I didn't miss any work day this month. I don't want to give more indepth info cos many of my colleagues at work are Nairalanders and they might snitch on me.

What do you lovely people suggest I do? How will a chinko be subjecting me to 21st century slavery? I know end-of-the-year bonuses. I have never heard of deductions in my life.

check the contract of employment you signed, complain to the HR. if they continue, please look for another job. Chinese people don't like paying their staff, good salaries.

1. Do you have a written work aggremement/ contract with the company ?
2. Was it written in Chinese language or English ? I am sure must be written in English, they are very cunning indivuduals. You might want to read again and this time read , digest and understand well the content of the contract and see If bonuses are included .
3. If your resumption date was actually Nov. 12. then I can understand the reason for deduction in your first payment, but consequent deduction seems unfair. You should be able to verify from your employer when you receive your Pay slip, also from colleagues, unless you did somethings that made your boss deduct from your salary. They may even pretend your tax is been deducted but was never paid to the government . Make sure you verify that .
4. Was the date for monthly salary payment stipulated in the contracts ? If so your employer must be going against the agreement stipulated in the contract. Here in China , many companies , education institutes, schools, mostly privates pay salary between 5th and 15th day of the new month, Except for government establishments and schools that pay timely on or before month end.
And there are guidelines for them to follow the rules Or else If reported to the authority, their licenses will be withdrawn. . But this is in Nigeria and not China, they have to follow NIGERIAN labour laws not the other way, same as foreign companies abide by the Chinese labour law . The Chinese bosses hate challenges thus will make your job hell on earth and eventually terminate your employment unexpectedly, you might have worked for a full month and got nothing at the end but a sack letter.
5. If you are sure you did your jobs well, payment were deducted carelessly, you should get a lawyer (mind you) they are good at manipulating evidences. . So be vigilante, only If you decide to let it go, but the illegal practices wont stop . .
6 If you decide to fight for what Is yours, make sure you ve had enough leverage over the company,e. g work acitivities, company policies, workers safety measures, condition of operation, work hazard management, company genuine license and Workers union, of course which I am sure the Chinese don't encourage but would help in supporting your claims.
My 2 cents. . . Good luck. .

firstly go and hear the excuse it might make sense

then ask him to his face what u can do to ensure u get ur salary in full that way ull do it and he won't have any conventional excuse

then also find out how well ur company is doing , it might be because of low sales that they are behaving like this ,it happens

and also try and see if it's at all possible (I'm skeptic about this tho) to see if u can get legal help like ask questions from a lawyer or something

That's how they make sure you don't quit overnight. If you do, you'll lose whatever you're owed.

On a side note, a Nigerian employer in China could get arrested for doing that. And what does the Ministry of Labour have to say to this practice? A foreign entity operating within the boundaries of Nigeria MUST abide by the country's laid down labour rules.
